As you can already see, several operating systems are already available for the PineA64; gnu+linux (several flavors, including now Gentoo), Remix, Android, and others. Bios of course does not make sense for the PineA64; however, some are experimenting with UEFI.
gnu+linux supports virtualization; in fact, that is why Simon Eissenmann (longsleep) built the linux kernel for the pine board in the first place. Containers , Docker , work on the pine board , and any number of things might run in a VM.
It is possible to boot to an sdd, hdd, but you must use the SD card to get there. The rootfs then installs on the disk; the SD card points to the disk (I am over-simlifying here).
