if you're happy with Ubuntu, couldnt one get the same looking gigaset phone aand flash it? (afraid this won't work and that is why the volla phone exists)

I think also it's a bit pricey but you also have a replaceable battery which is very rare these days. It's the price for privacy and freedom ?
