I also tried flashing the xfce image to an SD card and I do not get anything. etcher give the following warning. "it looks like this is not a bootable image; the image does not appear to contain a partition table and might not be recognized or bootable by your device"

README.TXT here is the description of the entry on the sdcard (need to unpack).

ah ok. I installed zstd and was able to get it to work. I'm able to boot to the desktop. not familiar with slackware so i will have to do some more reading on it.

or unpack directly to the card

  # zstdcat slackware-current-*-server-*-build-*.img.zst > /dev/mmcblk0

but i could unpack it and do a dd to the card.

i will try and revisit the u-boot setup
