Gentoo Linux test image

https://github.com/sakaki-/gentoo-on-rpi3-64bit

Image I have been using for RPI3 ,  https://github.com/psychedup/gentoo-pine64https://github.com/ksa242/gentoo-cubieboard-overlay

my hate for rpi3 is the ram is quite abysmal when doing lots of compiles.  however its ok for lower use.
ROCK64 is what I have mind with 4 gigs ...

PORTAGE_BINHOST="https://isshoni.org/pi64pie"
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sakaki.../make.conf

however the fact , you can   swipe some of his bins , might make for a better day.  by adding his binhost to abuse...

xfce is fully built etc.   as is many packages built weekly , pothole also is built ,etc..

some while not to my liking , do however work to bootstrap upgrades ie gcc 4.x -->  gcc 7.x , saves initial deep-hell loop

anycase some collaboration  ,might be of use.

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/gfsfqv3p4lvnz...kP8ia?dl=0  my prior work ,   with rpi3 , some pentoo packages also...

Question
(08-04-2016, 01:58 PM)xalius Wrote: I took an experimental stage3 tarball for arm64 (http://distfiles.gentoo.org/experimental/arm64/)  and integrated that with longsleep's simple-image to get a working solution. For the actual installation I just plugged the card into a cardreader and used the normal Ubuntu image to bootstrap the system. Following the Gentoo installation handbook works just like normal, just skip the parts about building a kernel / installing a bootloader of course... so if you want to try running Gentoo on the Pine, feel free to play with this test image:

http://itsdave.co.uk/pine64/Gentoo/gentoo-pine64-20160804.img.gz  md5sum: 2F049A4C2C16A3AF827E5A43C6C46DEB

Upload fixed, thanks to ItsDave for hosting the file!

I upgraded the packages of the stage 3 tarball and rebuilt most packages on the live system afterwards, added longsleep's platform scripts and corekeeper is already running in the background. So far I didn't hit any obstacles with installing / compiling packages for ARM64...

A dhcp client and a sshd are listening on eth0 and the default user/pw is 'gentoo/gentoo' , root password is also 'gentoo' so you might want to change that :-)

Of course this all comes with no warranty for anything whatsoever, but if you have a need for Gentoo, you probably already know what you are doing.

There will be no official support for this image, but feel free to ask questions and suggest additions to the base image!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

2016-08-07 Update 1: If you run out of RAM while building larger projects (especially C++ ), try setting MAKEOPTS="-j3" instead of -j5

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

2017-01-15 Update 2: As shaggy013 pointed out, there are actually autobuilds for arm64 stage3 tarballs : http://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/gentoo...ge3-arm64/

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Idea Does this work with the rock64 or would i need a new kernel etc? I have the 4GB version.

The PINE A64 OS build doesn't work on ROCK64.

I recently got slackware xfce on main card ..
Emmc for gentoo.. via USB for now..

And trying to migrate some bins from RPI3 to rockpro64.. 4 gig.

So I'm wondering if any means to get it up and running or start fresh with a stage4 min cloud arm64 , and or fix boot loader to match rock64/ Rockpro64..
I have grub2 with uboot.. and efi..
So a uboot with efi to fire up grub..
(Pick OS or kernel/s, with ease)
/boot/efi
/boot , kernels etc..

(Pentoo pkg ports or pkgs I made on arm64 debian with gentoo chroot on scaleway.. )
Accept keywords ~arm64::gentoo , repo names ie sakaki rpi3 image. Wiki.. hint hint.
And or snag some rpi3 binhosted packages..
For updates rebuild faster ie gcc..
Add a few other useful overlays to build from.

Anyway got enough packages as "Lego's"
Just need to get Rock64 and or Rockpro64 booting off gentoo, as I'd prefer it.
