The program doesn`t detect the camera
#1
Hello, I have a Pinephone with Mobian. Although megapixel works in it, no other program tells me the camera. I have tried "Camera", "Authenticator" or "Decoder", and I can't get it. Could someone help me get them to work?

Thanks a lot

Hello

Do you use Mobian Bookwork or Trixie?

The last time I tried to use Jitsi Meet online, it didn't work and it seemed that there were no easy solutions.

If your kernel is reasonably recent, applications that work with libcamera should work (sorta… the video will likely end up rotated, but at least you get video), assuming libcamera is installed to begin with. But many applications still do not work properly with the libcamera stack (e.g., because they use v4l2 directly, or they use GStreamer but hardcode the v4l2 source there). Those that use the highest-level abstraction (Pipewire) should just work, but that is a very new API, so not many applications are ported to it yet. GStreamer applications may or may not work depending on what assumptions they make.

But if you use an ancient kernel like the Mobian stable (bookworm) one, chances are libcamera will not work at all.

The Pinephonepro on mobian trixie detects neither the OmniVision OV8858 selfie cam nor the Sony IMX258 13Mp main camera.  Please correct me if I am wrong, I understand that this is a pipewire and a libcamera issue.  I need to look at more git issues and wiki pages to try to figure out what is going wrong.
There are plenty of mention of people hand hacking the cameras to work though I dislike hand hacks which tend to break the real fix when it comes down the mobian upgrade pipeline.

I really miss having cameras on my PPP vs the working camera on the Pinephone classic on mobian bookworm, even if only for reading QR codes.

Can you still read QR codes with Megapixels?

It worked on my old pinephone.  No usable cameras on PPP.  Looks like the config file is missing and there is a thread with no answer,
Code:
xxxxxxxxx@mobian:~$ megapixels
/usr/share/megapixels/config/pine64,pinephone-pro.ini not found
Could not find any config file
https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=17615
there were people documenting PPP with megapixels working in 2021 https://invidious.privacyredirect.com/wa...FDt9C0vWEc

This thread was originally about the original PinePhone, which has completely different cameras.

Megapixels 1 does not officially support the PinePhone Pro. Some distributions used to carry patches to make it work, or a separate megapixels-ppp package, but for some reason they stopped carrying that. There is a ppp branch in the Megapixels git (https://gitlab.com/megapixels-org/Megapi...type=heads) that you can try, or you can try the current development for what will be Megapixels 2, or you can try libcamera-using applications (which Megapixels is not).
