Quick and easy bootloader option for JumpDrive on external SD card?
#1
According to this marvelous installation intruction:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zf0zwq6jI30

I was able to use my second hand PinePhone with lost password very quickly. The instruction shows how to install a distro over an SD card with JumpDrive. I immediately was happy with JumpDrive.

To access the external SD card from my PC is a feature which I miss since years on Android phones. I would like to use the external SD for data storage and use it to read and write to it from a PC. But when the external SD card with JumpDrive is plugged into the PinePhone, I cannot start Ubports anymore, but only JumpDrive.

Is there a quick and easy boot loader option available to solve this problem?

The fastest and easiest way I could find is to buy the PinePhone multi-distro demo image:

one week shipping time from Canada to Switzerland, if you choose a reasonable shipping option Angry .

Have a look at tow-boot - holding volume-up during boot will boot into USB Mass Storage mode, very similar to JumpDrive. Mobian and PmOS are moving to this bootloader as standard, while it should work with other distros too.

I got this wrong. I saw a Wiki page about this topic, which looked complicated, but this instruction here:

https://xnux.eu/p-boot-demo/

looks feasable. Vincent gave me the link, who sells the SD card with the software. He is selling the image on the SD card, but it can also be downloaded. It is not necessary to buy an SD card from Canada for this project Cool .

For those who are looking for a quick and easy solution like me, I suggest to download the torrent file. Download time was about 24hrs, compared to shipping time of 6 days for shipping of the SD card from Canada to Switzerland Smile .

Finally managed to get to work the Multi Distro Image. For those who are looking for a quick and easy solution and are more familiar with Windows than Linux, I suggest to decompress the downloaded multi.img.zst file with PeaZip and burn the .img file to the SD card with Etcher.
