Everything has unintended consequences.
The global tyranny overload has large numbers of people coming to our once "fringe" camp of libertarianism. This is causing people with all kinds of anti-libertarian ideas to call themselves Libertarians. (I'm not going to pretend that this wasn't a problem before, mind you. But it has gotten much, much worse.)
The same thing will happen with "smartphones" that don't have Apple and Google spying capability. Eventually the majority of people with such phones will end up wanting the spy features, polluting our camp.
I want to comply with the rules here and not discuss politics. But at some point, preservation of life as we know it necessitates this. Unfortunately I think we've reached that point.
I do appreciate anyone wanting to believe the TV about the state of the world right now. More power to you. But many prominent libertarians, the kind of people who set the stage for our basic freedoms, gave stem warnings about trusting individual safety and security to government. And if you think government is in some way separate from Apple, Google, or any of the other "private sector" spy agencies, I can only beg you to consider otherwise. Unfortunately any proof I can offer is likely to be seen as "silly conspiracy theory" to anyone not already aware of this. Apple, and especially Google (as well as the vast majority of other media companies), have been very, very good about concealing their marriage to (tyrannical) government.
