  No audio
Posted by: evj - 04-20-2020, 08:23 PM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Hardware and Accessories - Replies (1)

No audio on PBP as delivered. Read message about trying with another operating system. After much trouble I succeeded in booting OpenSuse (from microSD); still no sound. Am I not doing something (in config files), or have I got bad hardware?

  Anyone running Gentoo?
Posted by: N1ESE - 04-20-2020, 04:35 PM - Forum: Linux on RockPro64 - Replies (1)

I'm looking to upgrade from a Raspberry Pi 4 2GB to a RockPro64 4GB.

Is anyone running Gentoo?  I did a forum search but only found one user working on an image back in 2018 but didn't seem to get too far.

I mostly need to figure out how to get a minimal stage3 to boot and I can probably figure out the rest from there.

Thanks.

Touchscreen broken on arrival [*now with video*]
Posted by: ozzeruk - 04-20-2020, 11:41 AM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (10)

[Edit: here is a video showing the issue: https://youtu.be/9qhO412xwaE ]

So my PinePhone arrived today - and I have to say from afar the phone looks just like any other modern smartphone (which is great) - replaceable battery is a godsend and the hardware switches on the back much appreciated. All in all this is a very well made device.

Mine just has one issue, and I wanted to discover if others have the same issue?

** Now firstly - I know when you order a PinePhone it says - 'if you are going to complain about the odd dead pixel then please just don't order the phone' - I nearly didn't write this for that reason - but I believe my issue doesn't fit that criteria, a dead pixel is cosmetic - this significantly handicaps usage, so here goes **

Can I buy a new touchscreen to install myself? Mine came damaged, in the centre, about 60% of the way down the screen - I have no issue with it looking bad - I don't care - I really don't. The issue is it makes it impossible to press the screen at that location, the affected area is about 0.7cm by 0.7cm. It is most noticable when I try to type text on the inbuild keyboard in Ubuntu Touch for example - when I click the 't', an 'r' appears. I know the issue is the touchscreen as if I turn the phone upside down or rotate it, then the keyboard works fine.

So this isn't meant to be a moan - just simply that my PinePhone came disabled, and I'd like to know how easy it will be in the future to fix it?

In the meantime I turn the phone upside down when I need to press that part of the screen - which obviously will only work where implemented in software.

Does anyone else has an issue whereby they literally can't touch a reasonable large part of the touch screen - right in the middle?

  Manjaro 20.04 KDE update issue
Posted by: mlentink - 04-20-2020, 10:08 AM - Forum: Linux on Pinebook Pro - Replies (5)

This is most probably due to my lack of familiarity with Arch/Manjaro but running Manjaro 20.04 KDE (from a sd-card flashed earlier today) I have a problem with an update. the system tells me there are 150 updates available and after pressing the key to start the update it starts downloading and checking integrity. Then it encounters an already exisiting file and quits with an error.
Installation of a single package halts with the same message:

Code:
conflicting files:
nss: /usr/lib/p11-kit-trust.so exists is this filesystem

(translated)

So basically I cannot update, but I can' t install packages either (like ntfs-3g, printer related packages and Thunderbird.

Can anybody help me resolve this, other then checking each individual package until I have found the culprit?

Thx!

  Panfrost and CrOS
Posted by: tophneal - 04-20-2020, 07:17 AM - Forum: Chromium OS on Pinebook Pro - Replies (2)

Was just catching up on threads from over the weekend, when I came across this post, specifically:

maxjrh:

Quote:Binaries called "chrome" or "chromium" are explicitly blacklisted by the panfrost driver.

Even though it's been established that waiting for 5.7 will be best for mainlining efforts, I recalled you mentioned having issues with getting Panfrost to play nicely, @brent.thierens. Figured I'd share this, as it may have be contributing to that issue. Hopefully this will be helpful for whenever someone updates CrOS next.

Question Status LED visible through light sensor window.
Posted by: RWXYZ - 04-20-2020, 06:34 AM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (1)

On my Braveheart PinePhone when the status LED is lit the light shines through the window for the ambient light sensor/proximity sensor. This seems like it could affect the performance of the sensor, preventing auto brightness adjustment from working if the status LED is lit for notifications. Additionally it also makes the status light look a little odd, although this is not really a problem in itself.
Is this the case in all Braveheart devices or does mine have some sort of defect? If this is a defect how would I go about fixing it myself? I assume it could be as simple as gluing a small piece of plastic between the LED and sensor, but I have yet to take my device that far apart to see.

  Unable to boot armbian
Posted by: fchazal - 04-20-2020, 06:01 AM - Forum: Linux on Rock64 - Replies (2)

I can't make any armbian image boot from sdcard on my ROCK64 rev2.

The sdcard is fine and well written with a single ext4 partition on it but the board just doesn't boot and leaves me a blank screen.
I have no problem running ayufan debian images but they have a vfat boot partition instead of armbian images.

Is there anything I'm missing ? Could anybody please help me ?
Thanks

  WD NVMe not recognized
Posted by: fbshilli - 04-19-2020, 02:24 PM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Hardware and Accessories - Replies (6)

At first, I tried to install a Samsung NVME that kept crashing the PBP.  After reading about the power problems, I checked the compatibility chart and exchanged it  for a WD NVMe BLue SN550 1TB drive.  Now the system does not even recognize the drive is there.

Can anyone suggest why this is happening?

Photo Looking for a PBP NVMe/SSD cable
Posted by: ab1jx - 04-19-2020, 10:44 AM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (13)

There's a flex cable that goes between the CPU board and the NVMe adapter board.  I thought the NVMe adapter from the Pine store would come with it but it didn't.  My PBP got here in eastern US on Jan 13.  There was an original adapter which didn't quite fit around the trackpad and a cable, I got neither of those.

I bought an adapter from the Pine store and an Intel SSD.  But I only just opened up the Pinebook today to try to plug it in thinking I had everything I needed.  I'd had it open once before to flip the UART/headphone switch but I didn't pay attention to the NVMe situation, I guess I thought the original style adapter and cable were in there.

Question UBports Edition USA buyer
Posted by: FOSSagent0 - 04-19-2020, 09:36 AM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (5)

I have a question about the current state of the PInePhone not just limited to your latest UBports Edition.

1. Is the PinePhone developed further enough that those of us who are tech savvy but not developers would be able to use these phones.
- I am a Linux user and not someone who knows little of IT, I just don't code yet or know any programing languages.

2. I've seen posts of USA Phone carriers may not be supported yet and/or has difficulties. Can anyone shed some light on that? Something to due with frequency bands such as 4G, LTE, 5G etc.

3. Further expanding on point 2, Is T-Mobile supported? If not will it be supported in the future?

4. I understand that PinePhones have been around shortly and that not everything works perfectly, that's fine with me, I see Open-Source as a necessity to this current Duopoly that I believe we really need to break.

5. Is there other Free and Open source Mobile OS's that are begginer friendly for the PinePhone?

6. Which open-source mobile OS is the further above the rest and work very well with the Pinephone currently?

I have been thinking of picking up this UBports Edition but I need more info before I make a decession. Back to points 2 and 3 from the brief comments I have seen I do hope us in the US are not forgotten about.
