Hello Pine Community,

I was wondering if some one was able to boot Chrome OS from the SD card? My default OS is Manjaro on my Pinebook Pro. I was able to flash Ayufan's Chrome OS on the SD card. When I restart the laptop I get a green light but the screen is blank. I want to try Chrome OS to see how it performs. Any help is appreciated.

PS: I still am not able to get the Wifi working on my Pinebook Pro after the latest pacman update. I even tried to downgrade the wifi firmware, but no luck. I have a separate post out there for help.

i am trying to install the Debian image of mrfixit on my Pinebook Pro. Unfortunately I have graphic errors immediately after booting (see picture). Does anyone here have a solution?

When I plugged it in unpowered, it seemed to work fine.  I got a USB-C to USB-C cable today and plugged it in, and it rapidly turned on and off.  I kept getting messages like:

Trying with GUI network manager results in PBP to hang.
Trying with "ip link set dev wlan0 address xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx" i get the following error "RTNETLINK Answers: Invalid exchange".
Trying with macchanger, i get the error "[ERROR] Could not change MAC: interface up or insufficient permissions: Invalid exchange".
Trying with "ifconfig wlan0 hw ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx" i get the error "SIOCSIFHWADDR: Invalid exchange".

I did put the wlan0 in a down state before trying to change its mac address.
I can't figure out why this isn't working. Could it be a hardware limitation problem (wireless card not able to spoof mac addresses)?

I am switching my ISP, DOCSIS in a big city just too awful, unreliable, bad connections, I hated it! So, today I ordered a RockPro64. Field of Application: Firewall/Router. I did see some interest in this topic in one of the past monthly blogs. So I decided to blog my experiences here for the community to (possibly) follow my steps and avoid some pitfalls I might step into.

First of all: This is an OpenBSD based Project. The RockPro64 configuration will be the 4gb model, 16gb emmc, no wifi module. I need to connect to a VDSL2 100mbit up / 40mbit down connection and I do want to do that via pppoe.

Let's start with my network topology:
The RP64 will act primarily as a Router between a private cloud network (an actual one, 3 storage nodes, 8 compute nodes, NFV, ...), Intranet (VLANs for Private network, Guest network and home automation) and Internet, with traffic flowing through any of them. In addition to that, I have a Virtual Private Server with a bunch of public IPs, which get passed throught to the private cloud.

Due to this layout, i have to calculate in 3 NICs, 2 of them 10gbit for routing between the private cloud network and Intranet, and one gbit nic to the modem. I plan to use an Intel X520-DA2 as my network card, which should be supported by both the RP64 (according to wiki post) and OpenBSD's ix driver.




A DrayTek Vigor 165 acting as a Modem via PPPoE in bridge mode rounds up the setup.



More on this, once i receive my package, but I'm hyped already and can't wait to see, how much this baby can handle.

Synaptics installed Python pip very well, but then pip fails to install Jupyter lab.  Jupyter notebook seemingly runs well, so lab failure is a mystery?  Is there a special set of commands for our ARM machine, or is lab not ready yet please?

Hi! I booted up my PBP for the first time, and I misunderstood the locale question, and selected the wrong one. So the whole system started in Arabic. I figured out how to change the locale in the settings manager, but it only changed about half of the text back to English. I literally have not done anything else on it yet, is there a way to redo the initial boot process? I feel like that would be the simplest option if possible.

(I'm fairly new to Linux and extremely new to Manjaro)

As I had the experience of a Crucial SSD on a RPI 4  (for booting de OS) and was very impress with the result, I got a Crucial P2 NVME PCIe 2280 M.2 SSD of 500 gb.
What it took 45 minutes to install in RPI 4 turned out to be a week (of confinement) to get working on PBP. The result is very good and can be compared with RPI 4.
I have tryed to add this hardware to the nvme listing with no result, so I will post here, excuse my ignorance.

The on demand consumption is enabled by default and my attempt to use other setting ended up with less battery life.

I have managed to boot from MMC and have root pointed to the NVMe by label. The so is Ubuntu mate as I tried  Manjaro but found it complicated to tune to my test, I am an ubuntu user for many years at home and work.

Hey folks,

A little background:  this is my first pine64 device.  I've flashed a few androids over the years, and long-time linux engineer.

My PBP arrived a couple weeks ago with Manjaro KDE and I've invested a bit of time getting it set up the way I like.  Currently all I'm doing is tarring everything to a file on USB drive.  But I really want to do an image backup.  Idea being I could flash a new OS, and then restore my image of customized Manjaro if I don't like it.  Or say I bork it bad and just want to revert to a known good state. 

It's always best to backup a quiesced filesystem (preferably unmounted).  I've done a little research here and on wiki and stuff and think I at least have a strategy.  Please let me know what you think:

First, I need to choose a linux distro which I can boot from SDcard.  Then insert a 64GB USB thumbdrive.  Boot the SDcard image.  finally dd the emmc to the USB.  poweroff, eject media and boot back to normal.    To restore, I do the above but dd the other way from USB to EMMC.

Is this a sound strategy or does it take me down a more aggravating path than one I'm not aware of, yet?
Is it better to boot from USB and dd to SD? (instead of the reverse as I described above)?
And where exactly does etcher come into play?  Burning the OS to the SDcard?
