  strange OS booting issue
Posted by: RodneyMyers - 11-10-2020, 11:54 AM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (4)

Okay, a very weird issue with SFOS.

I’ve had it installed on the eMMC drive for a few weeks. I attempted to install a cell sim card to try it out. The phone would boot just fine. Though, after it went to ‘sleep”, things changed. I attempted to wake it up, and all I was greeted with was the spinning ball.

Though, running from sdcard works as it should

Okay, I thought I may have scrambled the installed OS. Did a fresh download & install into eMMC. It has the same issue, spinning ball trying to re-awaken the phone.

I just flashed mobian onto the phone, and it does not have this issue.

Anyone have any suggestions?

  PineTime Simulation Feature
Posted by: gjoyet - 11-10-2020, 11:51 AM - Forum: Development Discussion on PineTime - Replies (3)

Hi

I just started a PineTime developing project for college. I am quite new to programming and just kind of got thrown into that project without any help available, which means I am still quite lost at the moment.
I will get a physical PineTime to run my code on, but until then I read on the wiki FAQ that you can preview watch faces thanks to WebAssembly.

I followed every step on this site, which was linked to on the wiki: I forked the Pinetime repo and created the Github workflow as instructed. However, the action failed with following error every time it ran:

cp: cannot stat 'src/DisplayApp/Screens/Clock.cpp': No such file or directory

I tried to google that but did not get any wiser. What is the problem? The directory that the path above is pointing to is in my repo, there is no doubt about that (except that every directory actually starts with a lowercase letter, but I do not suppose that this is relevant?). So why was it not found?

Thanks in advance for any help

  Query credit balance with *101# / Guthaben mit *101# abfragen
Posted by: horald - 11-10-2020, 10:18 AM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (2)

Hi guys,

I am new here. Therefore I do not know exactly whether I am right here. I recently bought a Linux cell phone from Pine64 with a Manjaro operating system. I still "nibble" at some settings on the phone. But what bothers me most at the moment is that I can't check my credit balance. On Android this is normally done with *101# but on the phone Manjaro doesn't let me type * and #. If I create a contact with the shortcut, then this is not called. Does anyone know any advice? Here is the version info from the phone:

distrib_id=Manjaro-ARM
distrib_release=20.10
distrib_codename=
distrib_description="Manjaro ARM Linux"

Since my English is unfortunately not that good, I have also formulated the request below in German.

Many greetings
Horst

Guthaben mit *101# abfragen

Hallo Leute,

distrib_id=Manjaro-ARM
distrib_release=20.10
distrib_codename=
distrib_description="Manjaro ARM Linux"

Viele Grüße
Horst

Question How Do I Close Dialogs and Menus???
Posted by: acid andy - 11-10-2020, 09:22 AM - Forum: Manjaro on PinePhone - Replies (8)

I hope I don't sound idiotic asking this - I come from a desktop background. My new Pinephone has Manjaro CE (doesn't say if it's Phosh or what, but it's based on Gnome). When I open a dialog box, like for example on the Calculator application opening the menu on the top right and pressing About Calculator, what's the proper way to just close the dialog box?

The Calculator's not the only example, see About Chats on the Chats menu and other dialogs as well, not just the About boxes. They don't have a close button, so is there some magic touch gesture I'm supposed to know about to make them go away? Normally with this kind of thing you'd expect to just click elsewhere on the parent application window and it would close automatically but that doesn't work on the Pinephone. Sad  So what's the deal with this, is it just a design flaw that the devs haven't had time to work on yet, a bug, or is there just some easy way to close the dialogs that I don't know?

I have a very similar problem on Firefox. If I long-press on a web page to open the menu, and then I decide I didn't want the menu, how do I make the menu go away? If I tap elsewhere on the browser window the menu still stays there, which I think is wrong. I end up having to choose something to click on like Select All, even though I don't want to, just to make it go away. The same problem occurs with Firefox's hamburger menu as well.

My current workaround for the dialog box problem, as mentioned in my other thread, is to tap the arrow at the bottom of the screen to bring up the window switcher and then use that to close the dialog. Unfortunately this isn't always possible. For example, I had to reboot the phone today after I put Firefox in fullscreen mode. When I did that, there were no buttons on the screen to switch tasks or active the on-screen keyboard (I tried the power button to lock and unlock the phone but I don't know if that would have helped as that time the endless lock screens bug got me!).

  Latest PinePhone CE Manjaro - Charging issues: hardware or software?
Posted by: kern707 - 11-10-2020, 06:07 AM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (5)

Hello everybody,

In regarding to what I have mentioned in my main "report" (here: https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=12077).

There seem to be another issue concerning battery / charge.

When my PinePhone is sited on my desk charging, and I do not touch it for long periods of time, it appears to be that the charging sequence is somehow stopped or disconnected, even when the device battery did not reach a full charge.

Why do I think so? well, everytime the phone is left charging but untouched, I come over, press the power key to bring the screen on, unlock, than have a quick look at the battery indicator, which is not charging (it was charging an hour before, when I have plugged-in the device), also the battery icon shows the normal state (not charging) - then I need to unplug the charging cable, and plug it in again - to get the "charging" status back on.

Is this a hardware problem? or a software problem? I am not sure.

But now I understand why after 10+ hours at night of being connected to the charger, my device did not reach a full charge.

Any informative input would be highly appreciated.

Have a nice day you all  Cool

Question How to tell which version of Manjaro / Phosh is installed?
Posted by: kern707 - 11-10-2020, 03:12 AM - Forum: Manjaro on PinePhone - Replies (4)

Hello everybody,

I was wondering, how I can check which version of Manjaro / Posh is installed on my PinePhone ?

I was looking for it in the "About" app, but other than a version number (which I believe belongs to the kernel?) I couldn't find much.

Is there any terminal command for this?

Thanks in advanced  Big Grin

  Rock64 enable 1-wire to read DS18B20 or Dallas temperature sensor
Posted by: Perry - 11-09-2020, 07:38 PM - Forum: General Discussion on ROCK64 - Replies (2)

How is the 1-wire bus enabled on a Rock64 ver 2 with Armbian 20.08.17 Bionic? I have enabled the w1-gpio through armbian-config. The /sys/bus/w1/devices/ folder is empty after sudo modprobe w1-gpio and sudo modprobe w1-therm.

Below is what is in the armbianEnv.txt file in the /boot directory.
verbosity=1
bootlogo=false
overlay_prefix=rockchip
rootdev=UUID=cbeeff94-c38d-4a79-b10a-3854a2470be4
rootfstype=ext4
usbstoragequirks=0x2537:0x1066:u,0x2537:0x1068:u
overlays=i2c7 spi-spidev w1-gpio

In the /boot/dtb/rockchip/overlay/ directory there is a file rockchip-w1-gpio.dtbo.

I have connected the VCC pin of the DS18B20 to 3v3 physical pin 1, ground of the DS18B20 to physical pin 9, data of the DS18B20 to physical 7.
The DS18B20 address and w1_bus_master1 do not appear in the /sys/bus/w1/devices/ folder.

What more is required to see the DS18B20 and take readings?

I have already connected an 18x2 LCD to i2c and am writing information to the LCD using python.

Thank you for the help.

  Blank screen after entering PIN - Manjaro and PMOS
Posted by: PegasusAndMe - 11-09-2020, 07:26 PM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (6)

Hey Guys!

Curious if anyone else has run into this. I received one of the Manjaro CE devices a couple weeks ago now and was one in the batch that happened to come with PMOS instead of Manjaro.

I figured flashing would be simple, so decided to give PMOS a go for a bit before flashing (since it was there and I was also interested in it). However, after a few minutes of use, I ran into an issue where after entering the PIN on the lock screen, the desktop would show for just a second, then fade to a blank black screen.

I had already setup SSH and connected to Wifi before this problem started, so I was able to verify that the device was on and response with a remote connection to it. I rebooted a couple of times and still ran into the same issue from this point forward.

I took this as an opportunity to flash with Manjaro CE and sure enough, I have the same issue. The only difference is that the blank screen on Manjaro is gray instead of black, so it's easier to tell that it really is still on.

In both cases, the screen fades to the blank state, so I can see the desktop for just a second before it becomes blank.

Anyone else seen this issue and solved it?

I'll keep poking at it and update here if I figure it out or find another thread on it (I ran a quick search and didn't find anything just yet).

  Cant login to a new install of ChromeOS
Posted by: flatulent_piney - 11-09-2020, 05:16 PM - Forum: Chromium OS on Pinebook Pro - Replies (1)

When I got my pbp back in August/Sept I tried the newest version of ayufan's chromeos build and poked around a little before moving on to other distros.  I recently had a reason to go back to chromeos and cannot login.  I have reflashed the sd card with 3 different version of chromeos and get messages about my account not being verified, but I can still sogn in as a guest and access gmail and such from inside the guest browser.

Doing web searches on this this problem reveals that it isnt exactly uncommon, but that a "powerwash" is the key to resetting a regular chromebook and fixing the issue.  The key combos for powerwashing do not work however (prompts restart but never prompts to begin powerwash), and there really shouldnt be a need to powerwash a freshly installed sd card anyway right?

My best guess is that there is some sort of leftovers from the first chromeos sdcard that I poked around with somewhere/somehow on the actual pbp and google isnt allowing sign-in.  I am using a different sd card, and have tried the same on also, and as I said befiore I have tried 3 different of ayufan's build.  None will let me sign in as anything other than guest.  Any thoughts and help are appreciated.  Ty
