  Buildroot Image
Posted by: k0m37 - 11-23-2020, 04:16 PM - Forum: Development Discussion on PineCube - Replies (3)

Hi all,

I managed to create a buildroot image with kernel 5.10rc4 for the pinecube. The actually usb-patch from daniel fullmer is not yet included.

ffmpeg and v4l2 are preinstalled in the image. I add the link to download the image here (google drive). Simply burn to sdcard.

The image boots on the console UART2. An ethernet connection is done via dhcp and sshd starts automatically.

Login is root & Password pinecube.

Unfortunately Wifi is not working yet. Also media-ctl brings an error "no /dev/media0".

I am grateful for tips on further configuration of the kernel and necessary packages.

Regards

Link Update:

New image with wifi now working & ov5640 driver & ffmpeg preinstalled

Question Help getting a GPU running on my RockPro64
Posted by: Ceazer - 11-23-2020, 04:05 PM - Forum: Linux on RockPro64 - No Replies

Hey guys Im looking for a little guidance... well maybe alot! lol I have a project that requires me to run a standard GPU on an SBC which i have chosen the RockPro64 to do so.  I am currently running Ayufan's Ubuntu18 which works well with the rest of my software, but have been having some difficulty getting the GPU to work.  I have 2 problems (which ultimately might just be the same)

  1. When trying to install the drivers it errors out with "Unable to load the kernal module nvidia.ko" I have asked at nVidia forums to see if i can get some guidance on this, unless someone here knows why it errors out.  It give a list of possible reasons for it to do this (built against the wrong sources, with the wrong version of GCC, or if another driver such as nouveau is present, or if no GPU is installed <-- think this is the problem)
  2. When i power up the GPU and boot the RockPro is fails to boot.  I get the red and white light constant and thats it.  The only things i know to look at are in GRUB but thats not present so I am at a bit of a loss.  Its obviously failing to boot due to the GPU, thus why i am thinking these 2 are connected since i cant "install" the GPU before installing the drivers.  Any ideas?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Christian

*GPU is connected via PCIE slot with a riser and powered by an external source*

  Very bad video playback
Posted by: ksinar - 11-23-2020, 01:48 PM - Forum: Linux on Pinebook Pro - Replies (1)

Hi, I switched to manjaro i3 from manjaro XFCE, and I am having really bad video playback everywhere. It is stuttering a lot on 720p, and it is a lot worse than it was on XFCE, basicakky unusable. I tried opening a video with mpv to see if there are any errors and I am getting this:

  Linus wants an ARM Laptop!
Posted by: Iolaum - 11-23-2020, 12:00 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (17)

I was reading this article from a Linus Torvalds interview. There's a choice quote from him:

Quote:I’ve been waiting for an ARM laptop that can run Linux for a long time. The new Air would be almost perfect, except for the OS. And I don’t have the time to tinker with it, or the inclination to fight companies that don’t want to help.

While the PBP may not be as powerful as the new Macbook Air he was asked about, it certainly ticks the other requirements. I don't know if it 'd be worth it for Pine64 to send him one to try and speak about.

Hello,

I initiate a thread dedicated to the 2020-11-13 image mobian-pinephone-phosh-20201113.img.gz
Because, I find difficult to know if a problem or bug is always pertinent when the OS's version is not known or when it is better to flash the new version than to only upgrade.
If there is a better solution, don't hesitate to give it Wink

I want to trace what is working after a new update. - 12-4-2020

I always make an 'apt update && apt dist-upgrade' in a console.

  • SMS : Unable to read the message received : 'systemctl restart phosh' needed.
  • Call with a short number : I have some short numbers like '123'. When I use the phone application and dial '123', I have my communication. But when the number is associated to a contact in the application 'Contacts', it's not possible to have a call.
  • Landscape / Portrait mode : When the phone is in Portrait mode and I change to Landscape mode, I must turn my phone on the left to have a normal view. But if the phone goes in sleep mode (manually or alone), the screen to unlock it is in Portrait mode and after I must turn my phone on the right to have a normal view. If I force the sleeping mode again, I recover the normal Landscape mode, I must turn my phone on the left to have a normal view. The bug seems that the Landscape mode is well memorized but the angle of rotation is not the good, something like '-90 °' in place of '+90 °'.

Howto - automatically recover your modem and mobile data after deep sleep
Posted by: as400 - 11-23-2020, 03:25 AM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (23)

As many of you know, there are problems with Mobile Data connection and modem waking up in a different state after deep sleep.
So I have come up with a solution that is automatic and does not require rebooting the phone.

Find it here --> https://gitlab.com/as400l/pp-modem-guard

Yes, I know it's nasty but the modem behaviour is so painfully unpredictable.

Question manjaro, dial app <---> contacts app
Posted by: tommaso - 11-23-2020, 01:46 AM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - No Replies

Dear Sirs,

One of the usual and more useful things of smartphones is the possibility to save the numbers of the received/made calls from dial application to memory & contacts application as well as to dial numbers from the contacts application. It seems that this is not possible from the manjaro’s applications of my new device.
Without this possibility I think that it has no sense to use a device differently from an interesting play, my simple G2 old NOKIA can do this and, since it has no access to internet at the moment is a good privacy solution.

Any suggestions?

Best regards

Safest way to send shutdown signal to headless Rock64 SMB server?
Posted by: bmurphr1 - 11-22-2020, 11:25 PM - Forum: General Discussion on ROCK64 - Replies (3)

I'm in the midst of setting up one of the extremely cheap but amazing deals on the Iconikal RK3328 boards recently sold on Amazon for 13 bucks, and I'm setting mine up as a tiny SMB server to host ISOs from an external HD to my Playstation 2.  I've been going back and forth between the idea of using OMV or just setting up a manual SMB share, but no matter which option I choose I still need a way to safely power down the device when it's not in use.  I know these boards have reset and power buttons on them, but considering the only case I could find for my board was a $6 AmeriDroid case, the power and reset buttons are extremely recessed.  I know you can hold the power button to kill power to the board, but if I fashion some sort of power button that reaches the onboard switch if I just press it once will that send the halt signals to the board and start the shutdown process?  This is my first SBC with a dedicated power button and I'm not used to having one handy, and since my main OS is stored on eMMC the last thing I want to do is to have to reprogram the module every time something craps up after being improperly shutdown.  Thanks.

need help selecting an operating system

Hi everyone!

I recently built my little media server using the RockPro64, along with the SATA expansion card connecting two 12 TB Ironwolf drives to serve as my home server. I'm having a little trouble deciding on the right OS for the job.

at the moment I have the full desktop version of Armbian installed, though at the moment I've got all the desktop stuff disabled through armbian-config. The version I've got installed is based on Ubuntu Focal.

I'm not having any problems per-say but the fan is constantly running at full speed, and never slows down. I'm using the NAS enclosure with the large fan and mid sized heat sync. I would really like to have that problem fixed. I've tried the ATS solution, to no avail I was wondering if I'm running too new of a kernel or something.

since the machine sits in my basement doing buggard-all much of the time, I don't see the point in having the fan blasting cool basement air through the unit all the time.

I only have two requirments of this machine other than better fan control; SSH, and Samba. Most of what it does is serving up media files to 5 other machines in the house running Kodi.

Thanks in advance for your help. I am relatively new to the rather exotic nature of the ARM multiverse, as such I am eager to learn.
