  keyboard/mouse freeze after 2-3 seconds on Debian
Posted by: Davo-CC - 11-24-2017, 08:22 AM - Forum: Linux on Rock64 - Replies (4)

I'm still doing my early tests and I'm not that familiar with this particular Debian build (I'm using the stock Debian build that is delivered by the pine64-installer application using the stock downloaded image).

I'm finding now that keyboard/mouse is freezing after about 2-3 seconds after reboot.  It works when the GUI is presented but then stops.  I'm trying to reconfigure the network addressing so I can't SSH into the device or read logs;  other than fry the build I'm a little unsure of the source of this problem.

Gear is a generic USB keyboard and a simple Logitech USB wireless mouse (worked well earlier on the same build), it seems to be an issue after reboot (soft or hard/switch).

Are there any suggestions or should I fry this build and re-do it?

  Power Supply and Sinks for multi-Rock64 env
Posted by: Davo-CC - 11-23-2017, 05:55 PM - Forum: Rock64 Hardware and Accessories - Replies (1)

My first Rock64-2gig arrived today, quite a surprising device especially considering its price.

I’m testing CPU mining (magi-coin) right now, if it proves viable I might put a small array of these together to chomp on coin at low power/heat ratios.
Right now I’m using a USB > 3.5mm barrel jack converter cable coming off one of those dedicated Anker multi-port USB charger devices (the kind that put out decent USB power).  I have seen some which claim to output 3w per outlet, I was wondering if this arrangement would suffice for running a number of Rock64’s off a single point;  the numbers seem to make sense but I’ve only done this for one point so far.  Does it sound like a viable option longer term?

Secondly – I wanted to passively cool them with a tall/large heat sink and no fan, I’ve seen some solutions involving rather tall-fin heat sinks or even a copper plate bridging a larger surface area cooler (as Christopher Barnatt did on a Pi v3 in this video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AYGnw6MwFM).

This would be run in a fairly open air setup (not enclosed in a case), the CPU of each device would be at or near 100% 24/7.   To keep the CPUs within temperature range and to avoid throttling – is something like Christopher’s idea more practical or is there a preferred method of passive cooling that people have had more success with?  Or does it absolutely need powered cooling?  (ambient temperature here is typically high teens to low 20’s Celsius).

So far I’ve been unable to get LMSensor reading CPU temperatures but I’ve only just started investigating the builds (using the stock Debian distro which seems to be 64-bit from what I can ascertain).

  Order #54101 - on hold?
Posted by: shockr - 11-23-2017, 05:26 PM - Forum: Shipment Related Discussion - Replies (5)

Hi,

I placed an order on the PINE store about 2 days ago and made payment with PayPal, but I got an email stating that the order is on hold until payment is confirmed received, which is weird since PayPal payments are supposed to be instant.

My order also includes a 2GB ROCK64, and there's a new note on the item that they won't ship out until December 12, which wasn't there when I placed my order. Will this affect my order? If yes, would that delay all items in the order until December 12 or just the ROCK64 board?

Finally, can I get a confirmation of the date when all items in my order will be sent out?

Thanks.

  Android Regular images are Android TV images
Posted by: Nurza - 11-22-2017, 10:41 AM - Forum: Android on Rock64 - Replies (8)

Hello ! I bought a Rock64 today and I am trying to install regular on it (not android tv).

I tried some images :

https://github.com/ayufan-rock64/android-7.1/releases (android-7.1-rock-64-rock64_regular-v0.3.11-r108-raw.img.gz)
http://wiki.pine64.org/index.php/ROCK64_...ndroid_7.x (Android 7.1.2 Stock Image [microSD Boot] [Rooted] [20171012])

But after booting these images are showing an Android TV display :

Is it normal ? Thank you a lot !

  Rock64 - program windows with inverted color
Posted by: HelgeMK - 11-21-2017, 04:02 PM - Forum: General Discussion on ROCK64 - No Replies

Hi, I am a new Rock64 user, running Ubuntu Mate. So far, all fine, except when opening a program, such as LibreOffice, the menu is unreadable, everything turns black, until I hover over it, which I bringing back the menu. I tried different display settings. I have been testing the sytem with a 7 inch LCD screen and a Samsung tv (38 inch), both via HDMI. I heard from another user that he is having the same issue.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks, Helge

  force HDMI output for VNC
Posted by: dontpostalot - 11-21-2017, 02:58 PM - Forum: Linux on Rock64 - Replies (1)

Hi

On the Pine64 to get x11vnc going I used to add the following to /boot/config.txt:

hdmi_force_hotplug=1
hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=16

I've looked at creating an xorg.conf file but the configure fails since I don't have a screen connected atm...

So how to force hdmi output on the Rock (Debian image)?
