After flashing Ubuntu- how to get graphical desktop
Posted by: Partymack711 - 01-31-2018, 03:55 PM - Forum: Ubuntu - Replies (6)

Hi,

I have installed Ubuntu successfully.

However, having downloaded Xubuntu desktop (Sudo apt install xubuntu desktop) I am not able to reboot to the desktop!  I can only boot to terminal.

Can anyone give me the command line to reboot to desktop??

Thanks

  Video freeze caused by overheating?
Posted by: wanthalf - 01-31-2018, 09:42 AM - Forum: Android on Pine A64(+) - Replies (4)

Hello, my video display is constantly freezing (if it lights up at all), sooner or later. I tried both my Pine64 1GB and 2GB versions, different displays from the default Pine LCD 720p module to large screen 4k LCD TV. Within a few minutes the screen turns white (or black) and nothing else helps. I did not even manage to start playing any video, just showing the desktop. When trying the 4k video resolution, I noticed it freezes rather sooner and the chip is getting really very hot. I attached a not-so-tiny heatsink to the chip, and the device managed to run at 1080p up to (maybe) some 10 minutes until even the heatsink got burning hot and the picture froze again.

I think I tried all the versions of Android available, from 5.1 to 7.1 (but mostly the 7.1). I am not sure whether I tried some standard Linux distribution with a display as well, at the moment. But without the display, all my Pine64s run continually without problems (and I have one running really 24/7 as a small single-USB-disk NAS, without any problems).

Am I the only one having these problems?

Lightbulb Is possible Kano OS?

Hi, as they title say, is possible yo port and boot Kano OS in Pine and Pinebook?, could be great, Kano complete kit is not really affordable, but the software have something special for children, much more eye-catching and intuitive than Ubuntu for Pine and more useful than stock Android for education

  eMMC card on adapter
Posted by: Malmgren - 01-30-2018, 12:14 PM - Forum: Getting Started - Replies (8)

Hi.
I feel kinda stupid having to ask (and it's also a bit off topic), but I bought an USB-eMMC adapter for flashing the image for my new Rock64 and I really can't understand how the card is supposed to fit on the adapter. I bought it from, eBay here.

I know I should probably have bought the one from Pine, but I thought since I'm just gone use it one time... Anyway, is there different kind of eMMC connectors or what? Have I bought the wrong kind of adapter?

  Sopine Complete Guide
Posted by: parmleyhunt - 01-30-2018, 09:41 AM - Forum: Linux on PINE A64-LTS / SOPINE - Replies (4)

Is there any available documentation on further expanding the Sopine baseboard and/or the GPIO pi-2 and euler bus I have an available pin out list and have successfully tested in and out via custom script. As far as i can search there is not actual documentation, i would not consider myself a noob but going through a 207 page specification and only finding information that doesnt have anything todo with what i want to know. If there is something i would like the link, or if anyone is also interested in this I would be willing to collaborate to make a "plain english" documentation source

Star 2 Year Anniversary

Good Day Fellow Contributors,

It has been over 2 Years now since I first got a "beta" tester board, and started messing in the Pine eco system.
I decided to get out that same board, and see if it still works. I've gotten Debian Stretch to boot with little to no issues.
I'm interested in the retro gaming market, and will be possibly making an emulator for certain retro consoles for ARM.

If any of you guys are interested in the Emulator project, leave me your suggestions.
Also how long have you been a contributor to the Pineverse?
