  Upgrading/Updating using Pacman
Posted by: Ptab2newb - 06-21-2023, 10:04 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PineTab - Replies (10)

I've mostly used some flavor of Ubuntu since April 2007, so Arch may be a steep learning curve for me. Amazon just sent me an ethernet cable and an ether2usb-c adapter, plus I have my Tab2 nearly fully charged. Now I need to do an update, but not sure how to proceed. Ican't find an application named Pacman listed in programs - can anyone help me out?

PineTab2: How to fix "Package corrupted" error on update [SOLUTION]
Posted by: IPXFong - 06-21-2023, 05:52 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PineTab - No Replies

Hey all, I'm more of a Debian/BSD kid so the software update process was a little arcane to me. I'm sure most people here don't need to know this, but I thought I'd write it down to save anyone else like me the trouble of looking it up.

Arch based distros use a package manager called pacman. It's both capable and flexible, but like many such tools, it's requires a bit of setup. If you get the error:

Code:
:: File /var/cache/pacman/pkg/somepackage.pkg.tar.xz is corrupted (invalid or corrupted package (PGP signature)).
Do you want to delete it? [Y/n]

for every package, your system needs to have its PGP keyring populated. You can do that with the following commands:
Code:
sudo pacman-key --populate
sudo pacman-key --refresh-keys

You should be able to update normally after that.

  Install or test EndeavourOs distribution
Posted by: genobraker - 06-21-2023, 03:54 PM - Forum: PineTab Software - Replies (3)

Hi! anyone has tried use EndeavourOs Arm on PineTab2?

I've tried the steps mentioned here , but nothing has worked, microsd doesn't boot, even I've used this method for Pine64, but I couldn't to start EndeavourOs.
I understand just exist only one official image and it needs a image in format img. Is there other way to boot or test EndevoursOs? What do I miss?

Thanks.

  Change console resolution (Armbian/bookworm)
Posted by: jcgraybill - 06-21-2023, 02:00 PM - Forum: Linux on Pinebook - Replies (1)

Hi - I'm running the Armbian "bookworm" cli-only Linux image on my Pinebook, which overall works great, except that text is extremely small on the 1080p LCD display. I've seen other folks with lower-resolution modes for console, but can't figure out how to change it.

I've tried updating disp_mode in /boot/armbianEnv.txt to no avail. No setting I've tried for this has had any effect. I've had slightly more luck adding extraargs=video=1280x720p@60 to this file: the screen goes black during boot, so at least something is getting passed to the kernel, although it seems to be an invalid resolution, and I haven't been able to find a valid one through trial and error.

Does anybody have any ideas? It looks like there are configuration utilities available if you add a desktop environment, but I'd really rather avoid that if possible.

Thank you!

  Phone Attitude(Device orientation)
Posted by: lurkadillian - 06-20-2023, 06:02 PM - Forum: PinePhone Pro Software - Replies (2)

I am having trouble finding any sources online about how to obtain the device orientation. If anybody has any knowledge about any libraries or maybe some global value that tracks this.

I am trying to modify this compass app https://gitlab.com/lgtrombetta/compass/ to allow compass to function when in any orientation(not just with your phone flat).

  Manjaro as shipped & camera?
Posted by: hambonius - 06-20-2023, 01:15 PM - Forum: PinePhone Pro Software - Replies (1)

Hi,

Just got my PPP and am playing with it out of the box. (As yet with no SIM card installed.)

With the original manjaro version, as shipped, should I be able to demonstrate that the cameras work? (I read of endemic PPP camera bugs.)

The MegaPixel app doesn't seem to find a camera and I d/l an app called 'cameracntrls' which reports "0 Camera found".

Am I missing something fundamental or expecting too much?

Thanks,

Brian H.

Thumbs Up Trackpoint

Having an integrated trackpoint would simply be a dream come true.

If you'd put a Trackpoint on the Pinebook Pro, the Lenovo Thinkpad would be history !

how to disable ipv6 at kernel level with towboot?

Adding  U_BOOT_PARAMETERS="ipv6.disable=1"   to /etc/default/u-boot        and run  u-boot-update use to work before tow boot.   What is the new methodology to pass  ipv6.disable=1 to kernel ?

  Switch to xfce?
Posted by: jakfish - 06-19-2023, 01:22 PM - Forum: Manjaro on PinePhone - Replies (5)

Running Manjaro Phosh Beta ver 33 on PP Beta, I'd like to install and switch to an xfce desktop. Would that be a simple pacman install of all things xfce, or would I need to find a non-Phosh OS and start from there?

Thanks.
