I think he means that he will remove everything he feels useless from image, so that RAM is not over consumed and gives him better performance. He wants to make it lightweight by snapping off any software he doesnt want.

This is correct. I'm trying to minimize RAM utilization, and also reduce the disk space utilization.

There are also certain applications which write to /data/data/ which is not accessible without root as far as I'm aware.

Any ETA on a root-enabled build or a suggested method for rooting the device?
Noted, I am currently working with Android engineer on next build release. Once this build out of door (hopefully on next week), we will look into rooted image. By right, the build that we release should be rooted by defsault and come to my surprise that the current build is unroot.
How is things looking regarding root access. I really need it to get my gamingconsole up and running...

Just discuss with our Android team today, the current Android ver 5.1 can still be rooted and we will release a root image. However, on the upcoming Android ver 6, Marshmallow, the release can only be unroot version due to Google security.

Can you expand on that a little more? Based on the tiny bit of info there it sounds like when you release 6.x it will not be rooted already but will it be possible to root it or will it be locked down in some fashion?

We will release the Android ver 5 with unroot and root version. However, on the Android ver 6, we only can only release unroot build due to new firmware security binding imposed by Google.

Do you have a estimated date for the release of the rooted ver 5? Would know how long I need to wait to get this going. Wink *feeling impatient*
Nothing? not even an estimate?

Just for the record an answer like "We dont know, but we are working on it" would help. that way I would know you guys have looked in to it.
