I find it interesting that you find Lynx excellent for anything on a phone, using a terminal on such a device isn't too much fun.

Note that Alpine developers love contributions, so you can try to fix the upstream package yourself and submit your improvements!

As I recall from dealing with this dot files issue in the past that, as a configuration option setting, it seems to have been made inaccessible per a developer's or distribution maintainer's  view of what constitutes appropriate security since dot files often are used for configuration settings/info.

As a sys admin (before I retired) working most of my time with terminal sessions on servers, it has been a hugely helpful management tool, when I can view all files from within a text mode full-screen browser such as Lynx, so maybe "ordinary" users on terminals really should be blocked from seeing such files if they don't even know about "ls -a", but I think if they do know about such files, and want or need to see them, then any tools that facilitate that should not hinder them in doing so.  Not sure though if I want to invest the time/effort in getting into that "philosophical discussion" with the Alpine maintainers, and/or put the effort into finding out how to re-compile a private version of lynx with that feature enabled.  In contrast, the lynx I use on Linux Mint (presumably using an upstream version from Debian/Ubuntu), and Rasbian on Raspberry Pi have no such restriction, although I usually have to manually set the config option for it on.

As for my terminal use on the phone with postmarketOS (pmOS), I found that useful for "following along" with the discussions here over the last few weeks for resolving various issues on the PinePhone, as well as enhancing it.  I have done most such terminal-based work though from an SSH session on my Linux PC so I have a large screen and full keyboard to do such work.
