Battery life: Maybe really a hardware issue?

(I tried replying here and it seemed to go into the bit bucket, trying again...)

There's definitely something draining it. I had a near fully-charged battery in my Pinephone but have not used it in about a week or so. I decided to check for updates, so switched the modem off and plugged in a charger. After the phone booted up the wifi was also inactive. Checking power status the battery was down to 0%!

So, I put in my spare, fully charged battery and the wifi came back. (Updates are now installing.) As you say, it's not software because the OS isn't even running, but something is draining the battery when the phone is off. It appears that those of us who only use their phones occasionally need to leave the battery out until actually using it. Kind of a PITA. I'm surprised I haven't noticed this before but this is probably the longest that I had not even hooked a charger up to the phone.
