Screen dying already?

A previous post in this thread mentions changes to the kernel in order to reduce heading and the maximum CPU usage. Does the Beta edition ship with those changes, or will they become available after installing the first updates upon receiving the device (sudo pamac -Syu)?

The themal management daemon I'm working on will, hopefully, become a Manjaro ARM package one day.  However, Manjaro ARM does already include a device tree patch that lowers the "passive" trip point a bit, from 75 oC to 60 oC, but IHMO not nearly enough to have a measurable effect.

I don't think the phone that I have (Manjaro Convergence) ever reached temperatures that would cause the adhesive to fail. My braveheart edition, when first released, would get far far far hotter and the screen on it still looks great. In my case, it started de-laminating in the top left corner and slowly spread around the edges of the screen. Now that it has done a full circle around, it seems to be spreading into the center. This all happened of the course of a month or so.

I'm sorry to hear that.   How much have you used your Braveheart Edition PinePhone, compared with the use of your Manjaro Edition PinePhone?  It could be that the prolonged exposure to moderate temperatures causes the screen delamination, much more than it is caused by shorter exposure to much higher temperatures.  This is just an assumption, though.

Would it at all be possible to "glue" the screen back onto the glass? or just take it off entirely and reattach it? This is more food for thought then anything else, just curious.

In theory, repairing the screen delamination should be the same as fixing a shattered screen whose LCD panel remained intact, which is a rather common repair for iPhones, for example.  However, you'd need to source the topmost screen layer, and possibly the digitizer, which aren't sold separately by Pine64 , and you'd need to find a cellphone repair shop that has access to a machine that can handle the size of the screen in the PinePhone.  I'm not an expert when it comes to such repairs, but I've heard that the end results can be very good.

One of the mods (evilbunny, not tagging him since it's not necessary ) saw the thread too and sticky'd it, which I appreciate as it helps bring attention to it from those who are also affected, but it's not an official statement of acknowledgement from the PINE64.

Actually, I asked evilbunny to mark this thread as sticky, so it becomes visible to as many PinePhone owners as possible.  We can isolate the root cause only by having as many reports as possible.
