Another PBP with a case crack

I noticed this when it was about a year old, I see other people are getting cracks too.  I've had it open a few times, all the screws are back in it.  Dropped it a couple times but it just slid off my lap onto carpet.  Opening the lid causes the crack to open up.

Yes, but I have to do it very year?  Parts availability seems to vary, one time I looked i found exactly what I needed, now I don't.  I don't need the keyboard or touchpad, it's just a plastic piece.  Some parts at https://pine64.com/product-category/lapt...46c16e2e66 or https://pine64.com/product/pinebook-pro-...46c16e2e66

This is maybe my 10th laptop in 20+ years.  This is what I'd call a hinge problem because too much resistance in the hinge causes the case to crack here.  I have an HP downstairs that I gave up on opening and closing but it's still running fine. I gave away an Acer that I cobbed together with aluminum and JB Weld epoxy.  I've bought several "fixer upper Dells", the last for $35.  Search on eBay for "no hard drive", you're looking for machines that came off lease.  Download the service manual PDF and search for the part numbers, you can find parts on eBay too, somebody bought out the factory's leftover stock.

I don't remember what's just inside this piece, I'd try to bridge it with metal on the outside held on with machine screws and glue.  But I didn't expect to need to.

I did a quick search and dug up these 2 posts about similar cracks.

I almost wish I hadn't invested in putting a 1 TB nvme drive in it, but I've since bought a 2 TB to use in a USB adapter so I know I can take this back out.
