Abuse of downvotes

i find the upvotes mildly useful at times, but i admit not knowing downvotes were a thing.

Yea, thats my only issue. I like upvotes at times... and, it lets folks kinda know who to trust if its a really technical issue or.....

Is there any way to permanently block someone? Due to my, and many others, responses to a certain forum individual they have been on a down vote/negative rating crusade and have sought out every post I have basically made in order to negatively rate them.

I have ignored that person via the control panel, but that has no effect judging by the 10 negative reputations in basically 2 days.

I mean I know reputation is fake internet points, but this is getting harassing.

I'm having the same thing with LinAdmin2...

I wrote the moderators, ignored the user and haved held back at replying to his even accosting replies to me personally.

I called him an asshole; so I do deserve ONE negative. Tongue But... when it walks like a duck...

I, also, hope the mods would decide to refund the multiples of negatives by one user. I have like 7. Only from one user, with no other negative reports. Duh...

I only hate that this is even a thing we have to bother the mods with - like they have real issues to deal with like the store, bringing us more cool hardware and etc.

But, I am glad and think we needed to post about this ONE user. I bet you are talking about the same person.

Over and over and over and over isn't fair.

Linadmin2 is the person harassing me also. Big shock he is doing it to most people.

As for the up/down votes - I am happy to get rid of them as I cannot see them serving any real purpose.
I'll start a vote in the community section.

edit: started a poll here

Please do.

It sucks that they are abused.

Furthermore, that one users round of downvotes yesterday... one of them stated that I spread hate and pornography. So.... I also think just posting BS and fibs should be handled with a heavier hand.

Like, just ban LinAdmin2 and everyone could up and downvote like normal humans. Tongue

lol @ pornography... what?!?!

I agree with Paulie.

Remove the abuse not the thing being abused.

Otherwise, I support a system with upvotes only and no downvotes - but also, I want to be a community that makes the least work for moderators and admins as possible...

Certainly don't want them to have to go over every downvote and try to guess who the good guys are.

The steps I've personally taken are to ignore the one user I have an issue with, stop and communication that might upset them and remove any messages where I was in the wrong. (It was only one.)

It sure seems up voting individual posts can be useful in a forum where the community is very often creating threads meant to pursue identifying
and solving a problem and in our case improving complex technological products.

Of course if as @tophneal reports that @fire219 has stated that modifying the "Rep" system is impossible and it can
only be enabled/disabled then I guess any discussion of modification other than removing Reputation voting is moot.

If you think somebody is trolling, but they're not breaking the rules sufficiently to be banned, it's best to just stop responding.

You are right. That's why i don't interact with him. Yet even right now guess who got even more downvotes from him? Today.

Guy is a bully.

Its funny people don't try and bully me in person since I'm 6'4 220lb Powerlifter. Online though no problem.

@Luke @tophneal the systemic abuse and violation of community rules continues. Why have rules if you do nothing with them?

Smile That's the "keyboard cowboy" scenario. Most, *most* people who are rude and insulting beyond sanity online wouldn't dare do that to most people in person. Or at least, in many cases not those of us they think they can best Smile

OMG, if I had known that you are a 6'4 220lb Powerlifter I would have fully respected you and silently endured the negative down-votes you and your peers in this forum pleased to pin to my ass.

I eventually found the setting to allow me to disable downvotes on this forum.

At this point, I'd recommend everyone just leave this subject alone; it's over.

I'm not planning to delete any negative reputation points though -- this whole reputation war is incredibly childish and I think being stuck with those points is a fitting punishment. Wink

Thank you. I believe you have implemented the best solution.

Probably should close/lock/whatever the poll thread.

Your argumentation is fully convincing: A gang of 4 started the downvoting game against me and is finally rewarded by your wisdom.
