Is there a way to increase the storage?
#1
I'm using PINE64 Community Edition: UBports Limited Edition Linux and I wonder if there is a way to increase the storage? For now, the storage is ONLY 16 Giga, which seems to be toooooo little.

Thank you

I don't think you can replace the eMMC directly (happy to be corrected if I'm wrong).
You can however, insert a SD card (directly above the SIM card) with as big a storage as you like.
I'm not sure how the different distros handle the SD card (automount, mount when accessing in filemanager),
Mobian f.e. mounts it on access.

Edit: There are eMMC available in the store, but I don't know if you can actually use those with the PP.
And if you actually can there might be some soldering required.
Maybe have a look at the schematics.

Judging from the eMMC datasheet a few options might be available,
but again it might not be that easy to actually "install" the eMMC. I'm also reasonably confident that you would void your warranty Wink
In case you are interested in disassembling your device, the eMMC is on the back of the mainboard. It is the U700 thingy

Thank you man...
That's great... But, can I have dual boot for the phone? Or, it's just for storage, but cannot boot?

Yes you can boot from the SD card aswell.
In fact u-boot first tries booting of the SD card and only if there is no (bootable) SD card
will it try to boot from eMMC (to the best of my knowledge).

That's great... Is there any recommended operating system for pinephone? I noticed postmarketOS and UBports are 2 operating systems for pinephone.

I wonder is Manjaro 20.04 or Ubuntu 20.04 have a version for pinephone instead of pinebook?

Cheers

There are quite a few actually (with more being worked on).

Have a look here and here.

mobian tested attached...Thank you very much devrtz

I think there are still some problems for pinephone.

  1. RAM is toooooo small, as well as emmc . How to replace to bigger ones physically is interesting
  2. CPU is easy to get a little bit overheating
  3. Speed is more or less a kind of slow, generatlly speaking. Why and how?
Cheers
