Agree that's why i want to know why would this needed in case this could conflict with the development (i.e manufacturing error on X boards that might affect the runtime somewhere else, etc..)
On mine there's no blob, and the 5V and G pads both look like the G pad in the photo, with a bit more of a gap between them. Is it perhaps rework for a faulty 5V pad?
Mine also has no blob of solder, it looks like the picture in the Wiki.
Mine also has the solder on it - my guess is, that they had some contacting issues with the pins from the case, since it looks like the ground pin hits the pad in the middle but the 5V pin is quite close to the ground pin (at least in my case).
