When will the pinebook get an upgrade to the ROCK64 and >= FHD display (like the manga screen 2)?
I know it's early days for this SBC but the potential is so exciting I had to ask.

Yes, very early days Tongue

But TL has said that if there is enough interest in such a thing, it may very well happen... so there's a good chance it will happen Wink

When happen, both Pinebook and Rockbook main CPU board dimension and connector layout will be identical. This means Rockbook main CPU board can fit into Pinebook case.

yah that's why we want a rockbook Smile

https://www.acer.com/ac/en/CA/content/mo...omebookr13

seems to be the best available alternative ($500) which is maybe 3x the price of what a 1080p rockbook would be ($150?)

http://armdevices.net/2017/01/22/samsung...-rk3399-c/
https://www.uk.insight.com/en-gb/product...0006990089

The Asus flip rk3399 is ready for preorder for £362.39
Samsung chromebook plus $ 449.99

I really suggest skipping the rk3328 as a rockbook but bring the rk3399 into the store with a netbook option.
https://videostrong.en.alibaba.com/produ...board.html

It would give the Rock64 a complementary big brother, add to the Pine range and provide an extremely capable netbook that already has chromium OS support en masse.

The rk3399 is definately going to get cheaper and it would be interesting to see if pine just employ the reference or maybe they can add additional sata ports.

The crowdfund could draw in attention for both the devboard and the netbook.

I think you may get much interest especially in educational circles for a modular, build-able netbook that can run chromium OS & Linux that is aimed at the $250 space.

Maybe both could be done and with a clever selection of options a compatible pool could be created for both.
Its likely not as much compatibility for the rk3328 would hinder the rk3399.

Yah but the Asus flip is 1280 x 800 which is limiting... >1080p was around in 1995, I have never (except 720p on moble) recommended or purchased less.
the samsung one is missing a backlit keyboard but looks good otherwise.

Both just examples of netbooks using the rk3399 wasn't really about what they are employed with.

To be frank the peripherals need to be in a cost spectrum that is comparable to the SoC used.
I would say 1080p & backlit keyboards on a rk3288 would be a complete mismatch in cost spectrum.
Maybe with RK3399 but also due to the size of the screen and battery considerations with a netbook majors such as Asus & Samsung think differently.

Make a poll maybe get some community votes of what is of interest & importance.
Personally with a netbook its a reasonable processor that is battery optimised.

That is why you are probably going to see lesser resolutions and none backlit zero power keyboards.
The rk3288 is specifically aimed at tvboxes with low price good video encoding with a relatively modest processor.
Personally I think it would make a relatively poor and limited netbook that a difference of a $100 would be the difference between a poor product and an extremely good one.
rk3328 vs rk3399 for me is quite clear and the engineers at rockchip never intended the rk3328 to end up in a netbook which is not true about the rk3399.
