Pinephone received yesterday. Ran it through basic phone and web browser functionality tests.
This phone is apha not beta.
Access to voice and data dropped multiple times.
PO resets and battery removal and replacement to clear.
Other basic functionality such as camera would require a complete overhaul of both SW and HW to even get to minimal functionality . 
Will try to get this not ready for prime time phone returned for refund.

Not sure what OS you tried but yes alpha at best.  It is really a hacker special which requires much love care and attention to get that otherwise impossible to achieve privacy phone(excluding a few firmware blobs.  Nowhere else can you get a phone which Cellbright cant hack, even GraphineOS uses an easily hackable recovery to boot.

The default OS is out of date. 
Try one of these. They are the top used around the community. Personally, I use DanctNIX Arch with Phosh.

I have both the PinePhone and PinePhonePro. The software for the PinePhone is in better shape compared to the PinePhonePro.

I am running DanctNIX Arch with Phosh on a PinePhonePro and I have not had any of the issues people keep talking about. Calls, VoLTE, SMS, MMS, cell broadcast messages, voice mail, internet, Wifi, 4G data, mobile hot spot, calendar, calendar notifications, contacts, syncthing, Navigation with GPS and offline maps via osmin work, connecting Google accounts work, Groupme via firefox, Facebook via firefox ALL WORK. Calls, SMS, MMS all work from sleep.

I have not tested alarms from sleep. I have not tested any bluetooth items. The camera somewhat works with compiling my own packages. I currently use an Android device to take pictures and syncthing puts them on the PinePhonePro.
