phonebook app does not send sms or voice call
#1
I have plasma-pinephone.  I use consumer cellular sim card.  It shows CCNetwork in upper left of screen.  Voice calls work fine using Phone app.  SMS texts work fine using Spacebar.

Phonebook app provides choices to Call or Send SMS after the selection of a contact.  Neither function works.

The call function of phonebook asks for device to call contact with.  It has a text box with dropdown arrow.  Nothing opens up and selecting the box does not start keyboard to allow text entry.  I wouldn't know what to put there anyway.

The SMS function of phonebook opens with message: "Device to send sms with".  Again dropdown type text box is there that has no dropdown options.  Selecting the box does not open keyboard to enter any information.

Other users I have been discussing my issues with seem to have this phonebook functionality working.  My system  is a fresh install of beta8 release that was installed 2 days ago.

On occasion I see message that  "Modem (quecte!qmi_0)     Shows no carrier  "  .  BUT,  voice calls (using phone app) and SMS texts (using spacebar) are working on Consumer Cellular network.

I resubmitted this thread from another to present it more concisely than where my issue was buried inside discussions.

Any insights anyone?          thanks,          tom kosvic

Just for comparing software and hardware problems or functions, perhaps try a few operating systems from an sd card..?

I suggest trying Mobian or Post Market from a micro-sd card. ... ( just to compare)

I have found on Mobian, > if a update breaks something,.. they usually have that problem resolved within a day or two,
so just another update is all that is needed to "Fix" it.

After last pacman -Syyu update, phonebook app allows sending sms messages to a contact but does not call out to a contact.  It makes a call if you manually enter the phone number.  That's 50% improvement.

Update was to plasma 5.23.3 with Framework 5.88.  Approx Dec 7th, I installed it.

Perhaps next update will fix phonebook entirely.

Hehe - you was too optimistic Smile Currently neither in beta 9 nor in developer edition the phonebook app can neither initiate a call nor start a sms sending process...

Au contraire,  I just installled beta9.  Phonebook can now make a call and also send an sms.  Previously, for me in beta8, it could make a call but not an sms. It also finds contacts fine.  I can't understand how different results are being seen on the same pinephone systems.  I have a consumer cellular sim card.  Perhaps there is some differences there.

But chatty (installed as chats), still does absolutely nothing.  No options including preferences open up anything.  I also ran from a terminal and there were no error messages to the terminal.  Yet others report good functionality from chatty.  Really weird.

At least , I have a functioning phonebook.

Hmm, strange... Just tested again and now everything worked... Very strange, as no updates between tests...

I guess that support for running gnome&phosh apps is not ready in PlaMo yet. Can't you just use Spacebar (should support mms now) for sms and dino-mobile for jabber?

Spacebar works fine. Messages organized by contact thread. All messages look to be there.

I had given up on spacebar a couple of updates ago and hadn't tried it recently. Don't know how long it has been working. SMS works fine.
MMS will attach a file but not send. Dialogue box comes up and says "No MMSC configured". Do not know where that might be directing me. Need some guidance or an information source for MMS.

Phonebook issues are bizarre. But it securely makes calls to contacts and/or typed keypad numbers. I'll keep trying it periodically to see if there are intermittent problems.

Keep plugging on this. Sometime it will all come together.

mmsc information should be entered in Phonebook Spacebar settings. Have not yet tried to send mms myself.

The only option I can find in "phonebook " is the 4dots icon.  Clicking that gives an "import contacts" dialogue and nothing else.  Where does one set MMS options in 'phonebook"?  I can't see any settings option.
