No idea on the price different yet. This highly depend on the component cost especially HiFi grade EC capacitor, analog power supply, low jitter master clock, and etc. Since Pine A64 is a DIY board, we currently only plan on a low costs and god performance DAC board first.

Once we have a proper linux version running, i would love to see an external I2S DAC (like hifi-berry)

Should be quite cheap to make - possibly via kickstarter so NRE costs of PCB making/assembly can be shared amoung many users.

If people are interested I'm willing to help with/do most of the hardware design.

What do ppl think ?

When I checked the ESS Technology DAC product page, the ES9023 was not listed:

Is it being going to be discontinued?

The Pine A64 board has the master clock where RPi doesn't have, no sure whether still need the clock divider.
Current highest bit rate is 192KHz, we have not try out the 384kHz and not sure whether works.
The DSD data pump to I2S bus is software implementation and needs developers to try out. However, the ES9023 DAC don't accept DSD data and needs to convert over to PCM.
Design a small adapter for Euler I2S pins over u.fl is possible. However, this depend on collaboration and popularity.
