Did you set up the APN correctly?
Or otherwise, do you have access to a SIM card of a different carrier?
I remember that while on SoftBank I couldn't get the USIM card to work no matter what, and the people at the local SoftBank store then told me that they only support iOS and Android (and garake (flip phones), but these run on a degoogled Android base).
Then I subscribed to Rakuten Mobile (and I'll change my old USIM to them too soon), and all of the sudden I could use mobile data and calls on my Pinephone (and on top of that, it's not restricted to the specific phone model that's registered for that USIM card only).
