I was thinking of setting up a libretranslate server on my VPS but there are problems with the OS version I am running that I can't change.

As far as less-bad I think MS translation has a better record after a privacy scandal vs Googl we know to be-evil which I have blacklisted for all purposes. If I really need google I have a VPN I use to access it..
