Shipping 1.2a - HDMi No Solder ?
#1
Hello!

I am a middle of the road hacker and I am comfortable with early release hardware and software. However I can not solder, especially anything small - I lack the dexterity (even with a microscope)

I like to play with a PinePhone. To have Mobian running with the option, using a UBC-C cable/Hub to have HDMI output when needed.

https://wiki.pine64.org/index.php?title=...rdware_Fix

Concerned if I purchase today, my lack of soldering skills is an issue. Is pinephone purchase today 1.2a+ with this issue fixed ?

Thanks,
Brendan

When plugging in the USB dock for HDMI output, you no longer can charge the battery due to a hardware fault of that generation.

Unless you are very skilled in fumbling around with surface mount boards, you better do not start such an adventure.

If I understood that correctly - maybe soldering - if I need to use HDMI for a period of time ?
God a link with more information ?

For watching HDMI you need no soldering. But if you want to have the phone charging while using the HDMI output, then you can not avoid soldering.

Do you have a source link for this? The wiki page says the 1.2a revision has the USB hardware issue fixed already - it there another problem that needs adding to that page?

That vid is about a problem affecting boards up to 1.2 - those components were replaced with a different one in the 1.2a boards to fix the problem. See https://xnux.eu/devices/feature/anx7688.html for example:
Quote:USB-C CC pins are grounded when VCONN switches are off

I discovered that all the current PP variants (1.0–1.2, Braveheart and at least a part of UBports CE batch) have a major issue, that prevents CC pins from working correctly. This issue will be fixed in revision 1.2a by a component swap.

Further up the page there's mention of a problem with PD chargers (and docks that do PD) but that appears to be due to something that's not yet implemented in the driver, not a hardware issue.

Sorry but I am convinced that you are wrong Huh

I may be wrong, in which case the wiki page I linked above needs correcting, as having incorrect information out there doesn't help any of us. This is why I'm asking for sources, and providing them when I'm making an assertion.
