To me phosh is the worst part of Mobian, pmOS et al. But it works for now. Fortunately with Linux underneath we can get rid of it. Big Grin
  • ROCKPro64 v2.1 2GB, 16Gb eMMC for rootfs, SX8200Pro 512GB NVMe for /home, HDMI video & sound, Bluetooth keyboard & mouse. Arch (6.2 kernel, Openbox desktop) for general purpose daily PC.
  • PinePhone Pro Explorer Edition, daily driver, rk2aw & U-boot on SPI, Arch/SXMO & Arch/phosh on eMMC
  • PinePhone BraveHeart now v1.2b 3/32Gb, Tow-boot with Arch/SXMO on eMMC

You bring up a great question. Now i'm wondering.... If we got everything up and running so that the phone was 100% functional, then got rid of phosh and installed plasma, would we retain the 100% functionality? Or is the functionality somehow tied to the shell?

Your perspective is valuable to me as i have extensive experience with debian and building my own images from scratch for desktop and just reading about the OSes only goes so far.

The two that seem to meet most of my needs are pmOS and Mobian.

I would love to use Maemo leste as my n900 was by far my favorite phone hands down for features and OS....but the current state is.... Fledgling at best and it almost seems abandoned.

I'm sure I will try out most at least from an sd card, but apt-get or similar is highly desirable for me.

Might an apt- get uninstall and an apt-get install something lighter work?

Assuming that other browsers have hw acceleration.

Probably not. Phosh uses Modem-Manager and Plasma ofono for the phone and data connections.

I would prefer to see sxmo in this list and my vote is for same.
SXMO - Pretty smooth. Already using it as daily driver.
-- Battery lasts for 7 hrs with new screenlock dev code
-- New UI changes are pretty cool ( no need to worry about buttons wearing out)
-- Rear and front camera works
-- latest app menu supports many applications
-- surf which is lightweight is good for browsing
-- foxtrotgps for navigation
--  youtube video and audio via mpv
-- calls and sms work (customized the code to use AT commands to make this work)
sxmo_devel has all these improvements from previous release
Thanks to all the developers involved.

I have also tried other os  - UB,mobian, arch and manjaro

It is OK for you to have your "own" choice.

However, speaking on my own behalf, " I LIKE PHOSH "

Glad you mentioned this!  I have almost tried this OS in the past as love the idea of the option of a very minimal OS/UI for PP.

Have almost given up trying to get my EC25 to function on my BH - can't hurt to give this a try and see if it shakes something out of the bushes.

Question:  Is the following link the proper place to find the latest SXMO image.  Any idea when a new build will be available?

http://images.lrdu dot org/pinephone/

I ask because the last image seems dated 7/26/2020.

Also any recommendations for good guidance and tutorials for installation and successful usage?

I am familiar with this thread: https://forum.pine64 dot org/showthread.php?tid=9913&highlight=sxmo

Have put the links to git repo from sxmo-devel channel. Not sure when the new build is expected.

I too, like Phosh. I found it runs much faster on PureOS than some of the other builds with Phosh. Just because one build with Phosh is slow, doesn't mean Phosh is the sole issue. Wink
