Looking to commission a new Chromium build (COMMUNITY BOUNTY)

Cross posting here for the sake of gathering potential resources. Yesterday a Gentoo release was posted to the site: https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=8765

Hopefully, with Gentoo running, and hopefully later fine-tuned, we may be able it use it as a better base for a new Chromium build, since Chrome OS is based on Gentoo.

The question however is, how do we start this development? I think it is helpful if we can for now just compile the code from @ayufan build, and if we know how we can integrate the official Rockchip kernel (which has complete support for all the features) with CrOS 77 and thus also with CrOS79/80. Once we can do that, it might be possible to have a go at this.

I wonder if we should use the official Rockchip kernel. I believe the ayufan CrOS already uses a fork of it, and it still lacks some of the kernel flags required to run ARC. I wonder if it might be better to use MrFixit2001's kernel fork instead. It seems to have much more of the necessary stuff for CrOS.

It's more of a "pledge" it turns out. You won't have it withdrawn immediately. I'm going to move  any money i pledge to my PayPal acct to avoid any issues.

I ended up leaving that off, b/c from what I read about porting it to devices, it apparently requires having a dedicated build machine to distribute the updates. I thought it might not have been appealing to ask for future upkeep.

Possibly, but that's something we'd need to talk to the Pine team about. We should also consider that this build server would likely need to be x86_64.
