Release upgrade failed! Or not?
#1
I'm running postmarketOS.

Today I tried to upgrade from 23.06 to 23.12 by running

Code:
postmarketos-release-upgrade

via SSH.

At the end I got the message:

Code:
Executing devicepkg-utils-0.2.0-r1.pre-upgrade
ERROR: devicepkg-utils-0.2.0-r1: trying to overwrite etc/deviceinfo owned by device-pine64-pinetab-kernel-allwinner-0.13-r4.

The log contains the exact same information and didn't help me. So I ran
Code:
postmarketos-release-upgrade

again, to see what happens and it said:

Code:
>>> Nothing to do, you are on the latest stable v23.12.

What does that mean now? Was the upgrade successful or not?

I would believe that it has upgraded successfully. Although it may still be a good idea to run
Code:
apk fix
as suggested. But the fact that the next upgrade command said that upgrade was successful suggests it worked fine.

It seems like this kind of error on upgrades is known, and it shouldn't cause install errors, see for example the comment at the bottom of this link or of this.

Thanks for that information. I ran
Code:
apk fix

but the error remains:

Code:
The following packages will be reinstalled:
  devicepkg-utils
After this operation, 0 B of additional disk space will be used.

This isn't a problem of any file permissions, is it?

Have you encountered any issues or error messages during the upgrade process, and have you tried running the "apk fix" command as suggested to ensure a successful upgrade?

The only error/issue I encountered is/stays the one I described in my last post. There I stated, that I ran "apk fix" and that the error remained.
But this was the only issue and doesn't seem to have any negative effects.
