I haven't played with Linux for half a decade and this is Manjaro KDE, not my old Debian system I ran KDE on (in spite of them basically being GNOME based... I digress.)
My question is this... how can I set up ANY SMS? Do I still need to hold onto my 2 year old Android phone JUST to get SMS? I jumped on board thinking that THIS had the capability of my old desktop in a phone, or at least something resembling my 2014'ish desktop.
You can either switch to another OS (I personally think Ubuntu Touch is most ready), or you can install a utility app for the modem. While it is a utility, it can receice and send SMS, and you will get notification from it that a SMS has been received. I just don't recall the name of it now. Maybe someone else knows.
Ubuntu Touch on the PPP? Where can I find the image?

Hmmm...there seems to be no work on the PPP with Ubuntu Touch going on

Seems the offerings for PPP are much less than the PP

I followed your link to https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/PinePhone_P...ases#NixOS and went down and saw "Mobiian", saw this Debian swirl and wondered if there was a KDE version or interface. I also noticed that Phosh used Wayland and thought I might try that too, especially considering the RESPECT I have for Purism who garnered my attention BOTH by creating an OS based on Debian AND by being the FIRST to make a Linux phone! Don't get me wrong, I do LOVE that PINE saw it was a good idea and ran with it!

https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/PinePhone_P...e_Releases I went here and scrolled down trying to find Ubuntu. I figured "WAY, WAY back when, Ubuntu sprouted from Debian"... And then I swear I saw a spiral I recognized next to the name Mobian! I don't know if they have a KDE version of it or not but I saw Phosh, which was developed by the Librem team. I bought a laptop from them. I REALLY dug the privacy respecting OS they built from Debian. Then they made a Linux phone, made Phosh for it, alas, I didn't have the means at THAT time, and despite ALL the pro's they were offering, I just couldn't afford it.
Then came PINE. They saw the potential that Purism invested in their phone and ran with it too!
Edit: I just saw my edit above, so I guess this is TECHNICALLY an Edit Edit!

You are probably thinking of the regular PhonePhone with many more OS releases

I've read this a couple of times and really can't come up with an excuse asides "blissful ignorance" (ignorance as in "lack of knowledge" not "lack by.choice".)

SMS should 'just work' on any distro which supports PinePhone by now. MMS is another story, although even that is becoming pretty well supprted by now (was not always the case).

Well, last I checked, the Manjaro with Plasma Mobile does not even come with a SMS application. Instead you have to install a modem app to even get any SMS received.
Wow, really? I am very surprised about that. But I have no experience with that distro/DE combo, so I suppose I have to take it at face value. Thanks for the correction.
