How to open the phone?

Mate, you're scaring me. There is a notch, specifically there to place your fingernail into (or a blunt and soft tool). You do not need to create a gap! Sorry, I'm not yelling, I'm just trying to make it obvious that there is a purposely made notch to separate the back cover from the phone. It is a bit rigid, but it's all pretty tough, so shouldn't break by you tugging on it.

See this photo, it's on the bottom right of the phone/back cover

I hope this clarifies things

You could also use a guitar pick. That might be easy to come across for some people. I have no problem using my thumbnail though.

I use two thumb nails in the notch, then go around the whole phone spreading the gap all the way around.

I do have one small crack in mine now because I tried 'gently tugging' after just widening the gap at notch.

IF you slide your nail ( in the gap ) around the whole phone it will pull off easily.

I use a spudger to get the back off mine. Don't want to ruin my nails LOL.
She knows just enough about Linux to be dangerous.
