XBoard segmentation fault for 'New Variant'

Does anyone else also get a segfault from the following?

Install and run XBoard:

Code:

$ sudo apt install xboard
$ xboard

Then click File > New Variant.

For me, XBoard crashes with 'Segmentation fault' both on mrfixit's stock Debian and Daniel Thompson's Debian on microSD, and also if I compile XBoard from source ('How to build the development version' in https://www.gnu.org/software/xboard/).
