Megapixels Crash When Taking Photo |

Hi, I'm running the newest version of Mobian and whenever I try to take a picture in Megapixels the app crashes, the viewfinder and such works fine it's just taking the photo that's the issue. I tried running the app from the terminal and I seem to get a segmentation fault, anyone know what's wrong?

Purpose of shielding tape? |

Hi folks,
I received my replacement mainboard for my BH pinephone but I wonder what the purpose of the shielding tape is that came with it? Am I supposed to apply it somewhere?
Edit: Seems like the new mainboard comes with the shielding but BH was missing it. I suppose it's included in case you want to repurpose your BH board then. Confirmation welcome.

Quadrature Encoder Input |

A week ago I came across the PINE64 site while looking for some alternative SBCs to replace an RPi3 in a project. I have no real reason to do so other than I enjoy using new pieces, or old, of hardware in motion control. Currently I am building a machine to run tensile tests on materials to analyze their properties which uses a RPi3 connected to an Arduino as the main controls. The machine uses a ball screw driven by a servo motor with a motor encoder. Currently the Arduino reads the quadrature encoder which is not the most efficient use for an entire micro controller, but quadrature ICs are fairly expensive from what I can find. I have been looking through some of the Pine SBCs data sheets and schematics but have a yet unanswered question.
To the point: Do any of the pine SBCs have a built in quadrature encoder input?
In my searches I have found that the Beagle Boards do, but after a few hours of looking around here I am very interested in the PINE 64 products.

QR codes |

due to a recent edict by my state government I find I'm no longer able to buy food or alcohol since I have to sign in at all restaurants and bars using a random "guest register" which pretty much every establishment is only enabling access to via a QR code. Obviously The govt say that establishments "should" allow other electronic means to register, but people are lazy so they don't. I dislike QR codes as much as the next person (I mean they could just print the URL as text - but obviously they don't bother) but need a solution.
I've mostly been using Manjaro recently but any suggestions using other distos welcomed.
What I've tried and what's failed.
obviously neither qtqr or cobang allow access to the camera and neither scale very well either
Taking picture using megapixel and using zbar or uploading the jpg to onlinebarcodereader have been (repeatedly) unsuccessful.
Taking the raw files from megapixel and creating higher resolution jpgs for those apps/services/applying sharpening filters using rawtherapee also hasn't worked.
UBports and sailfish both have qr readers but neither can access the camera.
I'm beginning to wonder if the camera can even take sharp enough pictures to decode a qr although the results I've achieved with rawtherapee have looked fine.

Cant Set APN on KDE Plasma Mobile Beta 1 |

I flashed the new Plasma Mobile Beta 1 to my Manjaro Convergence edition today and i am very impressed so far. Only set back im finding so far is an inability to set the APN for cellular networks. My SIM card autopopulates one APN and it is an inactive useless APN. I had this same issue with UT but was able to manually enter the proper APN and switch to it to make mobile data work. Is there a work around for this or a way to set a new APN through CLI using network manager?

Flash non-bootable eMMC? |

Hi everyone, I've managed to come up with a non-bootable eMMC after attempting to install Gentoo.
I can boot from SD if I turn the eMMC switch to off, but can't boot from SD with with the eMMC switch on. Obviously, in this scenario with the eMMC off, I can't flash a new OS to the eMMC.
What's the proper method to getting a functional OS back on the eMMC? Or more preferably, boot from SD with the eMMC switch on so I can continue to tinker with the Gentoo install that's on there? Thanks!

using dialpad for menu options during call |

Hi,
Apologies if this is already well known. But I had to make a call to a company that that had a menu system system to choose which department to you wanted to be connected to. So, I brought up the dialpad in the Calls app (Arch) and selected an option, but it didn't seem to be registered. Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a workaround?
Thanks

Kernel Update Channel |

Since switching to the Kernel Update Channel, I have noticed some subtle but important improvements:
- The wifi is still off when the phone wakes up, but it can be switched on much quicker. In the past, I had to switch the wifi slider off and on again and hope for the best, now I only have to tap on my router entry.
- The battery is only charged to about 90%. I heard this is deliberate in order to protect it.
- Battery life is getting quite close to an Android experience. Taking my phone off the charger and using it for 5-10 minutes every hour still leaves me with about 15% after 12 hours. This means I would be able to use the phone all day!
I have not tested calls and sms, simply because my main SIM card is in my other phone. I have a spare one in my Pinephione, but rarely use it. (For users in the UK: I decided to use 1p mobile which is expensive on data but cheap on calls and texts. The best thing about it is that it is a true PAYG, i.e. you only need to top up once every 120 days and then your remaining credit is rolled over).
The only issue that is holding me back from fully switching to the Pinephone on UT is the lack of a usable e-mail client. I have several accounts to check regularly, so Webmail is no good. And Dekko is too buggy to use.
I also find the YouTube developer sessions helpful. The latest can be found here:

Enjoy!

No internet access through Pinephone hot spot |

I decided to try out the wifi hot spot feature since that looks like something that could be useful. Out of the box, the "Turn on Wi-Fi Hotspot" 3 dots menu item in Settings/Wi-Fi is greyed out. So I set it up via command line per the Mobian wiki :
Code: sudo nmcli device wifi hotspot ifname wlan0 con-name Hotspot ssid Pinephone password HotspotPassword
This sets up the hot spot and connecting to it works, however there is no internet connectivity through that connection. (This is tested by pinging 8.8.8.8 so there are no name resolution issues.) Routing table on the laptop shows the default gateway as 10.42.0.1 and that pings, but nothing further out.
The phone is connected to 4G and has internet access itself. I've tried with a couple of different laptops with the same result. For test purposes firewalls on the phone and laptops are disabled. (A side effect seems to be that King's Cross terminal no longer responds to the virtual keyboard when the hot spot is enabled.) Rebooting the phone for good measure did not change the result.
Is there any other configuration that needs to be done, or is this something that is currently known not to work?
