JingOS - Computer semi-expert - 01-18-2021
Check out this beautiful-looking distro: https://www.jingos.com It looks like it would be a good candidate for the PineTab.
The site says that JingOS will be available starting January 31st. It will be available in an x86 build from the get-go, plus they apparently intend to build their own ARM tablet.

@Computer semi-expert I was discussing this with some friends, something seems off about the whole thing. It all feels more like I'm being sold a product, rather than an open source project.
If they intend to make the project open source, why are they currently working on it closed source? Why wouldn't they do their development open source from day 1? Just seems weird.
One thing to look out for when they (apparently) do open source the project is making sure there is a clear history of commits from where it diverged from Ubuntu - and no binary blobs or hard to understand code in the source.

Saw this covered on omgubuntu.
Going by this post, it looks like they are considering the unisoc tiger t7510 processor. Seems pretty fast compared to the a64 so I wonder how jingos would perform on a pinetab/pinephone.

they are certainly aware there's an interest for the PineTab, but I saw them on reddit and in discord state they are concerned whether the a64 will have the performance needed to run it well.

i would certainly love to see that ui on the tab! i know some of the postmarket guys started dialogue with the dev, but i'm not sure it progressed past that

So they have released PR without first creating the device... I already see timelines slipping.

Very optimistic timeline. This means they are aiming to have their first production run and testing done inside a single month.
Also bare in mind how difficult it is to source parts right now of any kind - especially displays and CPUs.
