A part of every SBC community will always want to use the device as a desktop 'replacement'. Starting with ayufan's 0.6.25 build much of the things people seek in such a desktop replacement are finally available and working. That said, please remember that until 0.6.X is labelled as 'pre-release' certain features - or the entire OS image - may not work properly or at all.  

Here is what you do. I suggest using an eMMC or external USB 3.0 HDD rather than a SD for best performance. Download the latest Ubuntu Xenial or Bionic (I've tested Bionic only) and install the LXDE desktop using the script in /usr/local/sbin

Help needed - installing Parrot OS on PINE A64+2GB Board

Should I image the SD card with the FAT32 format or what other format?

Does Parrot OS support non HD resolutions? I ask because I only own an old SVGA monitor and a projector that also doesn't support HD resolution. I happen to have a HDMI to SVGA adapter, which I use with my Rpi 2 running Parrot Sec OS without a problem, but my experience with PINE A64+2GB Board has been totally different, since I haven't been able to even make it work.

What is the format that one should use for imaging SD cards on APINE64+2GB Board?

Would it be FAT32, maybe? With all due respect, I bought my PINE64 a while ago, probably over a year now, but I honestly have never been able to make it run any OS. It's probably the worst investment of my life, considering that I haven't even been able to do anything with it, unlike my Rpi 2 which has never given me any issues with any OS installed on the several SD cards that I own.

What also gets me, is that now there's like four different models, which makes me realize this product probably was a failure.

I'm having trouble getting a port expander (MCP23017) connected over i2c to work and I'm not sure where things are breaking-down.

I'd like to start by confirming that I have all of the operating system/configuration bits in-place before diving into the hardware side of things.

What is the best way to check to make sure I have the right kernel/modules/etc. to make i2c work?  I'm using Armbian and have the i2s tools for Debian installed.

Hello, wondering if anybody can  help.  I have the Rock 64, I got past the problems of no video, thanks for the input from these forums.

The next question I have is, how can I properly install a version of Linux on this device?

The Raspberry PI, its Raspbian OS, it installs, you can change the IP, activate VNC, and SSH etc......
With the linux versions on the Rock, its like its just  booting a live CD version???

just got a used Pine A64+ and wanted to do some things with it

I dont prefer one OS over the other but I would need a 64bit kernel. Could you recommend one? I am familiar with debian/ubuntu distros but if centos7 (I have seen a thread) runs okay I would also try it out.

I need two things most importantly and that would be support for a wifi usb (nano) stick from edimax which work out of the box with RPIs. And to know how to configure a ssh connection because in raspbian this is just a checkmark

I installed ubuntu mate and within 10 minutes (then I had to do something else) I couldnt get the wifi stick to work and havent seen a quick ssh setting. :/

I am trying to setup Openmediavault onto my newly purchased Rock64.  I bought the USB eMMC adaptor to ease installations and I can write the image with no errors using the Pine64 Etcher application, but when I insert it and turn on my Rock64, I get the errors in the attached image (Sorry, I don't have any other way to capture it other than taking a picture with my phone.)

I have tried the following:

• Removing and re-inserting the eMMC, making sure the contacts are clean
  
• wiping it and reinstalling
  
• On my Windows PC, 'cleaning' the disk completely and checking it for errors using the USB adaptor
  

   

I see a note on the wiki indicating that the Clusterboard "is not "OSH" compliance.:".

Is this because the design of the board (schematics, etc.) are not open-source or that some of the components (Ethernet switch, etc.) are not open?

This problem keeps recurring and I can't even grasp on how I could probably debug it:
 - I am using the Ubuntu Mint image, upgraded to 17.10
 - Installed i3, work in it, still use power manager from Mint
 - I turn off the PineBook with the "poweroff" command
 - I turn it on next day and the battery is dead.
Any clue?
