I have been testing these, and so far I may have noticed some unusual Xorg behavior, but it is not quite reproducible yet, so I will keep testing.  I suggest anyone that uses these test them thoroughly.
Hello, I tried uncompressing both these LRZs and they both give me an error when doing so. Is it possible you can give a working one?

@icy-p I had to install a package `zstd`in my distro to be able to unpack this unusual compression type.
Then run
$unzstd filename
Source: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/4535...ng-tar-zst

Unpacking to an .img from that worked.

However, having tried both Etcher and command line dd, I can't get anything to show on screen after the initial text roll down that ends with "Starting kernel..."
After that, black screen. Checked md5 sum before unpacking.
Other distros work (namely KDE, Armbian, Manjaro (with errors after sleep/hibernate).

The links to download from the main Pine64 wiki are mostly broken, anything beginning 3space.xyz.

There are now three (3!) URLS to download from, with no explanation of the differences:
1. shelldweller.beauxbead... as per links in this thread
2. https://fail.pp.ua/slackware/images/pinebook/
3. http://dl.slarm64.org/slackware/images/

as well as the 4th aforementioned broken 3space.xyz URLs from this thread and the Pine64 wiki on 1080p OSes available: https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/Pinebook_So...#Slackware

I see there are differences in releases for the 1080p Pinebook I have, and the non-1080p Pinebook. However, the release directories linked to don't provide an indication of whether they are suitable for the 1080p, and I wonder if that is why I get black-screened after the starting kernel message?
By way of example: here is the naming convention used, the latest version I tried,
slarm64-current-aarch64-xfce-rootfs-20201023-5.9.3-pinebook-build-20201102.img.zst

and the parent dirs don't make a distinction between pinebook versions either.

Looks like I'm stuck for the time being on either KDE or Armbian, both of which use a legacy kernal 3.10.x

Images for the Pinebook in general, and Slackware in particular are a bit of a mess. On the plus side, Armbian seems to work well and is using a 5.4 kernel, if you download it directly from Armbian.

As far as I know, all of the Slackware images are for the 1080p Pinebook. I can't get any of them  past the uboot screen either. The only images that are confirmed to work were on 3space.xyz, and somewhere in this thread it was mentioned that they were going away in 2021. Looks like it has happened. Unfortunately there is something wrong with the images on the new site, shelldweller.beauxbead.com. I can't get them to unarchive. They seem suspiciously small.

I've been too lazy to break open my Pinebook in order to get the serial port going and try to figure out the error, so at the moment I have Slackware running with the Armbian kernel. I have wireless and X working but haven't tested beyond that.

I had forgotten that Armbian had 2 versions with different kernels (edit: actually it's so long since I looked at Armbian, they have moved on to kernel 5.x for everything), thanks for the reminder Smile

I also cannot get the *lrz* file to decompress. I installed lrzip and here is the output of the commands I tried:

$lrunzip slarm64-current-aarch64-xfce-rootfs-20201023-5.6.19-pinebook-build-20201105.img.lrz
Output filename is: slarm64-current-aarch64-xfce-rootfs-20201023-5.6.19-pinebook-build-20201105.img
Decompressing...
Partial read!? asked for 1 bytes but got 0
Stream read u8 failed
No such file or directory
Fatal error - exiting

$lrzip -d slarm64-current-aarch64-xfce-rootfs-20201023-5.6.19-pinebook-build-20201105.img.lrz
Output filename is: slarm64-current-aarch64-xfce-rootfs-20201023-5.6.19-pinebook-build-20201105.img
Failed to create slarm64-current-aarch64-xfce-rootfs-20201023-5.6.19-pinebook-build-20201105.img
File exists
Fatal error - exiting

So it appears that the first command created an img file, but returned an error also, and indeed the img created is 0 bytes. Deleting that 0 bytes file and re-running the 2nd command outputs the same as the 1st.

I'd like to politely ask the creators if the images to repack the img using a standard compression format, like tar if possible. Whatever is being used here clearly isn't working and is adding to the confusion (lrz / zst ?!?! ). It's harder to debug without knowing if the contents or the decompression are the issue. Although afaics from the man pages, I am correctly using lrunzip and lrzip -d.

I'm giving up on a Slack ARM for now. Life is too short Big Grin

Oops, I apologize for the downtime.  Dodgy   Life-away-from-keyboard got quite hectic around mid-December, and then when I had to do a server switcharoo after the new year, links broke.  I am not sure how the *.lrz archives got corrupted, but they definitely did.  My bad.

On the bright side, I did some symlink magic on the new server and got the old link pointing to the new directory.  These should work for the rest of the year at least if not much longer, but renting commercial server space is shady business, so we might run into a few hiccups along the way.

I uploaded some old archives and some fresh ones I just built with a working kernel.  Both of these links point to the same directory, just for the sake of domain redundancy:

This one works again, so the links on the Pine64 wiki should not need fixing:

https://3space.xyz/pineslarm/

and this one works too, but I am just riding on a subdomain from a kind web client:

https://shelldweller.beauxbead.com/slack/pineslarm/

The 5.5.8 kernel base image is a bit old, but it is still one of the most stable kernels I ever used with the Pinebook.  I keep this one around as a reference of how good it can be.  You should still be able to use this and bootstrap it up to an updated system with the 5.5.8 kernel.  Compressed with xz, this should not give you any issues besides being slightly vintage.

The 5.6.19 kernel images are the "latest" images that I could get to work without having the LCD panel issue listed here:

https://forum.armbian.com/topic/15177-bu...-pinebook/

I just built and tested them.  They have all the latest upstream updates, including the bluetooth kernel bug fix, and the latest Xfce out of the box.

I also have some Rock64 images using the 5.6.19 kernel that I use on two boards on a daily basis.  Anything newer and I have external monitor issues (no signal).

The later images are built without using a rootfs and are compressed with zstd.  Hopefully you can decompress those, they work for me no problem.  I use 99% Slackware though, and zstd is just part of the default install, on -current at least.

Commence downloading.  Again, my apologies for the server screw-ups.   Sad

p.s.  It is my understanding that images for the 1080p Pinebook can work on the earlier model, but not vice-versa all the time.  You might want to try these out, even if you have the non-1080 model.

there is another slarm64 thread on pinebook pro -- the kernel works on pinebook pros as well as pinebooks -- anyways... I got slarm64-current going on pinebook pro, with full disk encryption--however, it wasn't quite like fast food -- but it was a learning experience, which is what slackware is all about.  Before trying the image, I mounted it, and edited /etc/inittab to put it in runlevel 3, so that it would not try to automatically start X11 session, which is overkill.  Then, when booting from that image, I could login from console without X11, and complete installation (there was even handy script that installs to internal eMMC drive if desisred).

I do not believe that this is true at all.  Different firmware, different CPU.  I tested the pinebook-pro images on my pinebook 1080, and they would not boot at all, despite those images are made using the same script that mine are.

I just uploaded some fresh images using the 5.4.104 kernel.  These work great and have passed all of my preliminary tests.

Note:  if you do not want to boot into a graphical login, then start with the base image and build up from there.  You can stay on the console level as long as you desire.  I also have not been liking Xfce since the latest batch of updates, so I have been using other lighter window managers, Blackbox and JWM being my personal faves.  That way, you save a bunch of RAM and get back the snappy response.  As always, YMMV, depending on what you are trying to achieve.

I will eventually pull the other images off of this server, since these completely replace all of the others.
