I got a USB-C to HDMI adapter cable and a USB-C to mini-DP adapter cable, and with both of them the right 1/3rd of the screen is bad, digital noise or whatever.
Is this normal? Or is my PBP video output bad? Or could the adapters be not well adapted?
Switching to Full HD video works fine, so it's not a major problem.
Thanks for your reply. With either cable there is only one monitor connected. So either USB-C with adapter to HDMI cable to 4k monitor or USB-C with adapter to DP cable to 4k monitor. According to the spec this should be possible, but with my hardware it doesn't work...
From what I understand, some distros have the frame view port limited to 4096x4096. That means the builtin 1080p and an external 1080p work fine together. And external 4K only work fine. But, builtin 1080p + external 4K does not.
Try a different Linux distro.
Ideally, we would see the frame view port limit changed to 6144x4096 or something like that.

Again, I am using only an external 4k monitor, not the PBP screen alongside the external one. That should work, but doesn't. If anyone knows whether the standard manjaro works or doesn't work with a single 4k monitor, please report it here (I searched the forum but couldn't find anything). If anyone has success with a standard iso image on sd card that I could easily try, please also report.
Thanks for any and all information - I'm not sure my PBP is the problem (hardware or software) or my adapters...
