I haven't checked (nor I have received my keyboard yet) but I would think if it checks the keyboard at boot time then it should be booted while the keyboard is attached and it may be removed / reinserted later so I would think it may work.
However, it may happen it periodically checks if it is attached but then I would ask why it does not check for it periodically on absence.
Anyway, I would also think related kernel module and / or user application may be started later so connection should be possible also on a working system but its automatism is what is missing.
