headset audio left <-> right

Just got my pinephone, and I’m still using ordinary phosh, etc., that it came with…
I have a headset with separate headphone and microphone plugs. If I plug in the headphone plug
and try the audio test, I hear "front left" from the right ear and "front right" from the left ear.
Is this what I should expect from using this kind of plug on this kind of jack, or is it a
manifestation of audio being a work in progress?
