Dear all,

I was hoping to brain storm the community on how to fix the pinephone keyboard mainboard rather than just replacing it when the charging chip overheats and gets fried as it seems to do every 4-9 months for me.

I must have at least 6-7 mainboards in my possession now (only one of which is working sadly).

I have never soldered before, but would be willing to learn, particularly if the replacement charging chip could be bought for very cheap and it just needed desoldering the old one and soldering on the new one. This would be a good reason to start my soldering journey...

Glad for anyone's tips on this.

Hi everyone,

I remember once upon a time it was mentioned that there would be a battery case for the Pinephone /Pinephone pro; seeing the current state of things, I would say that the project has been scraped. Any chance to know why? I don't think it would be expensive to manufacture such a thing for Pine64, and seeing the issues with the battery life of the PPP it would be highly appreciated (if it doesn't add a crazy thickness to the phone, of course).
Cheers

The reason I am asking is that the one I've tried is a bit more complex that your garden variety PC gamepad.
They usually show up as two different USB HID device: A game pad and a touchscreen, and use an Android app in order to map inputs and gestures to the various buttons (this makes it possible to support games that only work with on-screen taps and swipes and don't support a controller) - (e.g.: the one I've bought by default maps one of the analog sticks as screen swipe).
So did someone try such gamepad and find a good way to map them on Linux?

I received my ppp a week ago and dived into it immediately. One feature I really want to try is the desktop experience as advertised.
I tested the Apple USB-C to HDMI adaptor I had (A1708), it only worked once (Mobian, without power input, attached hdmi cable, no usb device, must plug in before power on ppp). The apple adaptor usually works with all devices I had, PCs, Macs, iPad, android phone...just not PPP

I also tested on my Lenovo docking station, thunderbolt, of course not working.

So, I went out and bought two docks available in small stores (I have no idea how to call them, dock or hub. They all printed "hub" on the cover, but with power input, I just call them docks), these are the results:

1. Belkin usb-c multimedia hub, 60w passthrough, F4U092, ~ 86USD: hdmi worked out of the box with Mobian, PmOS, Kali, Arch. I used 15w/18w iPad power adaptor, I found no problem with hot plugging. Just switch the display scale to 100% before hot-plugging it should work very fast with no problem. usb 3.0 ports worked, the ethernet port did not work.

2. Apple A1708 & Lenovo docking station: not working, none of the ports were working

3. MoMax Onelink 8-in-1 usb-c hub, 60w passthrough, ~43USD: usb 3.0 worked. hdmi had issues with flickering screen with/without power input, all OS were the same.
I tested this dock on my ipad, mac, worked with no issue.

I think brand (chip quality?) matters. Should have just used Belkin...

I am not sure if that is the right term, the "power pass through" if I'm looking to buy a dock like the convergence.

I'm aware of the Pinebook dock... but assuming it works for PPP I'm sadly not trying to order from overseas at this time (dealing with DHL in my case is annoying).

Right now for Manjaro/Plasma Mobile I'm using this FlePow 7-in-1 USB-C adapter which works (I get HDMI out) however it is not powered so the PPP quickly dies.

I was looking into providing power through the pogo pins but that might have problems (with USB-C port plugged in at the same time).

I just want to make sure I buy the right thing... but if they're like $30 I guess I can try a couple here and there to find one that works.

I'll scope around other threads to see what people are using.

Interestingly... Manjaro Phosh does not do HDMI out, or as reliably as Plasma Mobile.

edit: USB-C PD input might be a term too

yeah the battery life unpowered is very short, under an hour from full charge

Hey all,
Just received my keyboard.
It looks awesome.
I plugged it in and nothing on my manjaro install with plasma
I though maybe manjaro was not supported like pmOS so flashed across to that with plasma and nothing.
I checked the docs and the guides which ellude to it being an auto thing.
I can see the battery charging indicator in pmOS and if I push any harder on the pogo pin area I am going to break my screen.

I was reading some of the forums and reddit and with latest kernel there was issues? Is this an order 'latest' and we should be good to go?
I checked about the firmware ie kernel or users pace but based on the docs saying that it should already be supported and just automatically I came here in case I am doing something wrong.

Cheers all.
