Armbian 5.1.y and storage/network potential issues

Hi,

I'm looking at purchasing a Pine H64 and using Armbian for a project that mostly requires network (around 128kb/s up and 128kb/s down) and storage (90% append-only write).  However, I'm concerned about the following at https://www.armbian.com/pine-h64/ :

--- CUT ---
- USB3 sometimes doesn’t detect high-speed devices properly
- random MAC
- limited 3rd party hardware support

For the network, I'd like to use the integrated wifi, but need a fixed MAC (for port-forwarding).

For storage, I'm looking at using a Toshiba HDTB410XK3AA Canvio Basics 1TB connected directly via USB3.  Does anyone know if this might be an issue (e.g. power and/or compatibility-wise)?

I still haven't decided about SD/eMMC for boot/root (but would like to use u-boot).

Does anyone know if the issues mentioned above have been resolved?

Hi -- thanks for the link.  The last comment in that thread doesn't seem promising tho...

This post also seems to suggest there could be a fix to the MAC issue: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/9623-pin...ment=76358 , but I didn't see any confirmation.

My uninformed guess is that last comment may be due to NetworkManager. I don't use NetworkManager, it may be overriding the settings.

I have used this method in the past to change a network interface MAC address.

I went ahead and ordered the Pine H64 .  I'll post my findings next week after I've had a chance to install Armbian, connect/use the USB 3.0 HDD, etc.

Using my old build in late June/early July, I had "partial" luck (e.g. wifi was working, etc.).. I mostly just had an issue with the USB3 drive.


I more recently tried the new Armbian build (available on July 6, 2019) for the Pine H64 and this seems to work well for my purposes.

Weird. Mine didn't even boot up.

The Raspberry 4 works fine!

Company is unwilling to replace as AOSC boots, and Armbian is unwilling to support.

Overall, this is no way to run our business. I'll go to Canakit or Newark and the Pi 4 for my 5K quote the CEO asked me for.

Well, if you're using this for business I would go with the more mature platforms such as the A64 LTS - especially if you value stability over performance.
