So I got gnome-remote-desktop running on the PineNote so that I could use xfreerdp from my Debian desktop to view and control my PineNote. Ie I drive it from my desktop.
Why? A computer is not a device but a part of a larger ecosystem including web, email, phones, tablets, desktops. I am not just on my computer now...my phone is going to chirp soon when some calendar entry that I put on my Debian NAS running Radicale says it's time to start walking on the treadmill but I used my wiki and my Evolution app to set this up...its all connected.
So...Liferea is an RSS reader...there may be better but just using it today...I like it on the PineNote.
Now typing in URLs for "feeds" is a pain.
Liferea agrees and allows you to import OPML files which contain lists of RSS feeds.
Cool, I wonder if anyone has some?
Well what do you know...someone has. I don't vouch for the content but I found Awesome RSS Links on github plenaryapp /
awesome-rss-feeds . I guess this Plenary is an app which lets you share RSS feeds more easily with the intent of gathering a bunch of them.
So download the (100s of) opml file to my desktop.
How to get to PineNote? Oh, my PN is on my wifi..and supports SSH. Simple Thunar file manager ssh://user@<ip> (dont tell anyone I havent setup a personal account)..drag and drop viola!
Now Liferae...apt-get install synaptic (graphical package manager)...search liferae, check, apply, done....
Lets import that opml...wait...Liferae says it's invalid! What! Hmm, I run Debian...lets see if there's a tool to "clean up" the xml...maybe that will thunk it enough to get Liferae to eat it...tidy...install, run tidy -xml file.opml > clean-file.opml.
Back to Thunar...copy the file.
Back to Liferae...import the file.
Damn! It works...not I can ingest all the RSS I want (until I fill my emmc...hint hint).
Why is all this soo cool? Try that on a vendor locked A, N, K, ... tablet.
Thanks for the PN!
