Touchscreen has stopped working
#1
Hello,

I have been using and loving my PineTime for almost 2 years, and it has suddenly developed a hardware issue. The touchscreen will not respond to touch, and the battery drain has gone from 16 days on a single charge to 2 days. I have rebooted the PineTime twice, flashed it from 1.13 to 1.14, allowed it to drain completely to shut it off, and nothing has helped. I'm not sure what could have caused this, I didn't drop or hit or soak it, from the battery drain it looks like it started at 5am when I was sleeping. Is there a way to repair it? All the other functions such as the step counter, bluetooth pairing, the physical button, notifications display etc all work.

I ordered two back in the day thinking my other half would want one, he did not. It sat in its box for years and I finally pulled it out recently when my original watch started doing exactly that. Now, ~6 months later, it's starting to exhibit the behavior that led up to the first one's touchscreen failing.

The first thing I notice is that some mornings when I wake up all the colors on the screen are inverted, then after a few times turning the screen on it goes black and won't respond for a while. After about 5-10 minutes it comes on to the Acorn logo but turned 90 degrees so the version number is right next to the button.

I let the watch battery drain till it's dead before plugging it back in. This worked on my first watch for a few months with this happening about once per week but eventually the touchscreen completely stopped responding like you experienced.

Kinda wondering if it isn't something in software as I've now had two watches purchased the same time do it even though one has only been in use recently for me?

Hi Semipol,

It's a late reply, but wanted to message you still.
Unfortunately, I have lost my PineTime recently, and thus have no reference hardware anymore.

However, I wanted to tell you that I have had experienced the exact same problem.

Some years ago, I acquired a PineTime Dev Kit (1 sealed watch, 1 unsealed watch) and first used the sealed one.. apparently without any problems for 2 years or more!  Then, as you stated, all of the sudden, the touch screen was fully unresponsive. At the time, it was on my wrist, so no charge or discharge had occured in the meantime. I do, however, remember it sometimes waking up will all screen colors inverted. I didn't think anything of it at the time and I also did not see any connection.

Because of this, I put the DevKit PineTime together, and started using that one on a daily basis. Never had much problems with it ; also updating it (up until 1.14 at least), only seemed to make the experience better. Somewhere along the line, there were really great improvements to battery life and whatnot. It lasted me at least a year, if not more, and also, suddenly, the touchscreen became unresponsive... Now, I could kinda live with this at the moment, as I mainly used it for timekeeping and check notifications. Unfortunately, I have lost the second one as well.
In hindsight, I think I did see the screen colors invert several times, but very infrequently at that.. It could always be fixed by rebooting the watch (3sec button hold -> blue pinecone), and it was fine.
The other thing I noticed several times, is that the screen sometimes got 'offset':  some text and or graphics from either the notification screen or the apps screen would then be shown on the main watch display. I'm unsure what could've been the cause, and whether or not it is related, but I thought I'd just share anyway.

Cheers
