Dead USB Port
#1
Hey everybody,

I was very exited when I received my pine. First impressions were really good! But I discovered that one of my USB ports was dead. There Is not even 5V(I tested an sub fan). I contacted the support but I didn't get a response yet... So I hope I will get contact to someone of the support team this way...

Is the 5v|batt jumper installed ?

... look next to the Pine cone logo.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think that would kill 5V to both ports, not just one of them.

Blackjack..do you have one working port, one dead port, or is it both ports dead?

One of the Ports ( the top one ) is Wirkung just Fine...

So its been that way since you got it? One port has never worked?

Give it a good once over visually...usb pins on the port itself, solder connections for the 8 pins on the dual usb jack (2x4), etc.

Few other things you could do, dependent on your troubleshooting skills, that would narrow down the cause.

I'm not that skilled in electronics... I've checked it in arrival when I first noticed that one port isn't working properly. I will provide you guys some pictures when I m home again On Sunday evening. Maybe you will see something on the pictures...

That's something I just wanted to suggest, please take some good quality pictures of the top and bottom side of the board...

Not seeing anything amiss that jumps out at me; didn't expect to as I assume the boards are not hand soldered anyway

The next two steps would be to verify you have 5V at both sets of usb pins, and if so, check continuity from board up to pins.

After a quick look, the only thing I could see was that the pins on my board and other boards (see pic on the left from the linux-sunxi wiki on the Pine) are protruding a lot more through the holes, maybe a pin of the connector was bent while placing the part? Or is it just the angle at which the picture was taken that makes your pins look shorter?
