Screen dying already?

Unfortunately this seemed to be the case for everybody in this thread (including me) who commented on that except the first person who reported it. Support just mentions the expired warranty and that's it. So I'm afraid it's a pretty safe assumption by now.

To give an update on the screen replacement: I replaced my screen in 09/2021 and it has not shown any signs of delamination so far. That's about 8 months so far whereas the old screen started showing signs after around 5 or 6 months. But I also haven't used the phone as much anymore in the past couple of months.

Well, that sounds like a assumption to me.

Of course I had contacted the support -- and got the reply that the warranty expires after 30 days. (I had written to them two months after receiving the phone.)

Hello Anna,
I'm just curious for myself. Did you sweat on it or use it after handling nail polish or anything? May I ask what kind of laundry detergent you use? I messed my first screen up by getting a small amount of residue on it like third-hand from something that touched something else in my amateur home lab and am trying to avoid messing it up again.
Thank you

Have the same issue with my KDE edition. This started to happen after I started putting the phone in / out of the keyboard case. The more often I did this, the more the screen degraded. I suspect that caused by the tight case and when getting out of it, I damage its glue.

The only final solution to this issue - is to order an alternative replacement touch panel, NOT FROM PINE64 - for these three reasons:
  • an alternative replacement touch panel ("ARTP" below) is guaranteed to be different and is unlikely to suffer from the same problem
  • an ARTP is going to be much cheaper, also you will not be rewarding Pine64 for their faulty products by your hard-earned money
  • an ARTP will have better availability & shipping options, while the official replacement touch panel is out of stock frequently (including now)

Actually, there was a great detailed article somewhere which described sourcing the ARTP and installation in a great detail,
the biggest caveat was that Pine64 changed the pinout of touch and you need to either change in reverse or make some adapter.
However, I lost it :-( Please help me to find it again in this thread - https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=19669

EDIT: there also may be some way to fix an existing touch panel, like using a gas lighter's quartz igniter - it works for some people, but may be dangerous:

Quote:Buy a two dollar lighter that uses a piece of quartz as an ignition source... Electrical discharge... Not the type with a piece of flint inside. The main difference and clue you have the right one is, the flint one has the rollers on top you run your thumb across as you press down on the button/trigger to release its gas for ignition. The lighter you want has just one button/ trigger. First vent or empty butane gas... Release valve on bottom. Then remove the quartz igniter from the lighters housing and place on you phones dead screen click/ press it a couple of times..for me three times. Dead zone/dead bar fixed.. no more ghost touches either. Fixed... 2.00 dollars... but keep igniter around in case screen goes dead again but after a couple of clicks screen permanent fix for me. For a detailed youtube video of the process, search keywords screen fix quartz iginiter.... the error is a digitizer fault, often due to your phone overheating for long periods at a time. The quartz igniter generates around 350 to 400 volts to the lcd screen and attached digitizer ..harmless to your phone and you... this electrical discharge that awakens the dead zone like magic. No costly repairs of digitizer and LCD screen
