Wireless Charging merely @ 0.5 A (PP_Mobian)
#1
Hello there,

my new wireless charging case is charging the Pinephone (Mobian Edition) merely at 0.5 A, but the case specs say it should be up to 1.2 A. The charger itself has an output of 15 W.

Any ideas how to boost the charging rate?

Thanks and cheers!

The latest update of powersupply to v0.6.0-1 solved the problem and now wireless charging is at full power (1.5A).

Not for me. I received my wireless charging case yesterday and already had 0.6.0 installed. I'm using Manjaro Phosh (unstable branch). I have the Insignia 10W charging pad from Best Buy. It charges my Pixel 6 at ~1300mA.

Oh, that's bad. Here are my specs:

Pinephone (Mobian Edition, 3Gb) - Mobian (FDE, bookworm)

I cannot say, if there are other packages involved, but for me this powersupply update solved the problem.

Maybe you can try to run the latest Mobian image on a SD card to check, if something is wrong with your hardware.

Cheers and good luck!

Edit: sunxi64 kernel 5.15, using an Anker PowerWave II Sense Stand 15W

Edit2: I'm back at 0.5A - and I have no clue, what happened! (there was an USB-related update today...)

Back at 1.5 A... The magic is still on.

EDIT: The magic might be disenchanted. Using the wireless charger to start the phone increases the charging power to the max. Removing the phone and re-placing it on the charger switches the amperage to 0.5... This behaviour is reproducible. But don't ask me why!

This could be a general charging issue or maybe it's related. I often have similar problems with the regular charging method where the phone only charges with 0.5 A (on Manjaro unstable). Replugging the cable doesn't help in these cases and neither does rebooting the phone with the charger plugged in. What always works to enable 1.5 A charging though is to shut down the phone and then start it up by plugging in the charger.
