Is there anyway to use the other power input without having a full desktop PSU, i've read its stable power that way?

You can go straight in to the DC IN connections on the Euler interface (second page of this document, see pins 2 & 4). You don't need a full desktop PSU to do this, just a power supply that gives out 5 volts. I'm trying out a JAMMA arcade switching power supply, but that's just because I have a bunch of them lying around.
